@Simone_in_Wiltshire since GM is busy in the garden I'll butt in. Verbena bonariensis. Big tall wafty things.  o:) I know this because I want some.

So that is where the rain went @GWRS , we had nothing! ( only 5 miles between us) was looking for the promised thunderstorm all day! Seems we were the hottest place in England again 32°
I agree about the aphids on fruit trees , the Sparrows have given up trying to clear mine.
  • Thanks a lot @plant pauper. 👍

Yes, now I see the context of pulling out seedlings. I also have had millions of seedlings as a result of my brave step to sow the ox-eye daisies, the cornflowers and verbena from the GW issue 😀

    I my garden.

Not much today, pinched out some of the tips of the French Beans.

    @Sheps
I wish I'd seen your picture some while back. I'd not thought about tying a can across the top of my broad beans. If I had, it would have prevented my wife from deciding to prune them!!! However, it wouldn't have stopped the aphids from covering them - despite the regular spraying.
I'll think about this for other plants, other years.
Looking back, my parents used to create a row of caves, like a tent, with a cane across the top for strength and winding beans along.

The older generation knows so much, that we in our, well, not quite so old-age, neglect to take on.

    Thank you!

Removed our broad beans today, tied up drooping branches of redcurrants.

    Thanks @rowlandscastle444

The cross cane is working as expected and should give me a few more beans with any luck.

I'm glad it's worked for you @Sheps , next time spread them further apart to increase your crop.😁

I definitely will @purplerallim though I am pushed for space.

Next time I will be a little more ruthless when pinching out the tips across the top cane as it is a little congested at the moment.

If you stick to two plants per cane, and six foot canes between them, you shouldn't need to pinch any tops, as for space my Lettuce are between the tubs, any short growing plant will work, even tomatoes would work.😁

Trimmed back the hornbeam and beech hedge inside the garden. Sorted out some of the dwarf conifers in the front that have decided they want to grow all over the path as usual.
