When people say they're buying a house for the garden, they often mean the space not the planting. Lots of non-gardener people look at a garden with well-stocked herbaceous/mixed borders that change through the seasons and see a mess because they don't understand it and maybe it's overwhelming to them. They prefer bare soil (maybe covered with gravel or something) with a row of individual plants spaced out along it, I think because they feel more "in control".

Plan your garden so there's 4 season interest, they said. Add ornamental grasses to enjoy the seedheads through the winter months they said.
My poor miscanthus!
Obviously outdoor gardening is over for the season. The various hot pepper plants I brought inside to try bonchi were doing fantastic, until about 4 of the 6 developed a horrible whitefly infestation. I tried soaps but it was just too much, and I didn't want to risk my other houseplants being infested so I dumped the plants in the woods. I only brought in my oregano, lemongrass, and rosemary herb containers this year, so hopefully I won't waste so much time trying to keep so many alive. I have some fun seeds to start in the new year; verbena bon (never had it before), blue fescue, Pink Sundae salvia, and xsenia cosmos. I managed to get my wildflower meadow cut down, raked, and reseeded, but the dang Juncos have been in there hot and heavy, so who knows if there's any seed left. In this case, I'm actually thankful for the new snow cover.

I stopped off by my Lonicera fragrantissima yesterday, looking for flower buds. To my delight I found the first flowers scattered around on it. I must give the bush a good haircut when it finishes flowering as it is encroaching over the gate and path, for now, I am going to enjoy the scent. The flowers are so insignificant but boy, do they pack a punch in the fragrance stakes.
I must go and check mine then @Joyce Goldenlily, it's near the bird feeders and they need refilling this morning. Unfortunately I think I'm losing my sense of smell but will go and have a big, big sniff!
Hi Lzzie, I think I had Covid before it was announced. My taste went really odd, everything was either extremely sweet, salty, or had no flavour. I had no appetite and could barely stay awake. It lasted for about 6 weeks. Since then I have realised there are so many things I cannot smell or taste, especially spices. Yet I am able to smell roses and taste cheese. Very strange. I am waiting for my honeysuckle to be in full flower. It is yummy on a sunny day
I can smell most foods and my perfume etc but some of my flowers don't smell so strong this last year or so. It doesn't help that this is a windy garden so scent doesn't hang around.
A valiant effort @GWRS, hope it looks good next year.
