I gave my pond a clean up, removing a lot of fallen leaves and cutting back some fading pond plants; will be a regular job over the next few weeks. This afternoon I planted a euonymus and some eryngiums, and did some general weeding and tidying up a few beds.

And deadheading of course, an almost daily job, especially on the cosmos, dahlias and zinnias still flowering away.

I've noticed the sweet chestnuts carpeting one corner of the garden are much bigger than last year. Obviously must have enjoyed the warm dry summer.
  • No gardening today.
A quick walk around the Village Green to empty the dog's tanks". Collect my daughter, and on to Lostwithiel for a walk along the river before going to the Duchy of Cornwall GC for lunch, if we can get in, and for my daughter to buy some tulip bulbs. A second mortgage will probably be needed.
This year  I have gone for "scented"! tulips. I grew some last year and they did have a slight perfume. My colour scheme is red, orange, and yellow, I am going to see if I can find some Forget me Not seedlings to underplant the tulips, all going into pots.

Dug another flowerbed to move a few 'didn't expect that' from the overcrowded bits. The strong winds have made the hot lips flatten out, there's an aubretia somewhere underneath!

'Finished' weeding all 15 flower beds at last, Probably time to start doing the 1st one again!
Raked up leaves and brushed paths. Watered front terrace pots.

  • No gardening today. Dog and I are bushed!
A rest day is in order.
Yesterday worked out beautifully. Mild, sunny, dry. It began raining just as we began to head home. Lovely by the river.
I now have to get my tulips planted, plus a myriad of other jobs.

Only away for the weekend, but the jobs seem to have built up!
Hubby mowed the back lawn, as warm sunshine had dried it enough.
Now four tomatoes have finished in the greenhouse there is room to move the Lime tree inside, plus two tubs with summer bedding .
I have far too many green tomatoes to cut them back yet, but the cucumbers are now done 76 from four plants.
Cut back some whippy growth on the climbing rose, and took out the dead foxgloves from that bed. Now I can see just how many weeds they were hiding 🤦‍♀️ omg

Bought a reduced price obelisk for the front garden - only just went into the car wedged between the front seats!
Manured the asparagus bed, maybe for the last time if they don't produce next year.
Fiddled about with some old bamboo fencing hiding a breeze block wall but ended up putting it back again.

Planted some hellebores and polyanthus in a border and weeded it.
  • It is hammering down with rain and blowing a gale so doubt if I do any gardening today. Picked some more tomatoes yesterday, and the last of the cucumbers.
I made a pot of squash soup for lunch.
My nerines are beginning to open their flowers, they enjoyed the summer bake.
I might try and repot the mini, scented cyclamen I bought last year. I had them on the window sill of the bathroom where they thrived. It faces North so nice and cool for them, I love the marbled patterns on the leaves.

  • I tried to water the front & do some much-needed weeding, but there's a putrid stink of fox/cat poo 🤢 I think the garden I've been working so hard on getting into shape is the bathroom of the street - outrageous!
