@CrankyYankee , hello , I live South of Lincoln in Lincolnshire and this is another year without any snow on the ground , do you normally get that amount of snow ?

A whole afternoon (5 hours) of gardening today, pulling out Jasminum beesianum, weedy alliums and spanish bluebells, and then potting up my haul from B&Q yesterday - bare root dahlias and a peony that's already sprouting and then planting out some of last year's seed-raised perennials. The grass could do with cutting but I ran out of time so that'll have to be tomorrow.

  • @GWRS I'm on the eastern side of New Hampshire in what's known as the Lakes Region, and per NOAA we average between 50-75 inches of snow each year.  I'm sure that average is lower with these warmer winters, and it's definitely less than northern NH and northern Maine...and California these days - I don't know how they manage with four to six-foot snowfalls all at once.

Finished pruning the roses and planted 2 potted hyacinths where there was a gap.

Cut the grass, trimmed the edges of two sections (out of three), pulled out some weeds, cut back some dead stuff, knackered now!

Yes, it was quite warm and sunny. I chopped all the salvias back, and some others which have green bits. I planted a carnation last year, it didn't do brilliantly in the heat & drought, but it's got 3 flower buds on already! 😯
I can see a couple of bulbs I planted too shallow, I'm pretty sure I read somewhere daffs should grow vertically. 😉🤣

Sowed Nicotiana, cosmos and liquorice. Transplanted a few seedlings of hawthorn along the boundary, I'm hoping for  a hedge sooner or later.  Any holly or hawthorn I find are going there in a line.
  • I unearthed from weeds, pruned and thinned a variegated hydrangea and a daisy bush. Needed a sit down with a cuppa before venturing out in the garden again to do some mini weeding, moved a tray of seedlings into the greenhouse, watered the onion seedlings in the greenhouse, pulled a couple of leeks, interspersed with sit downs, I pottered before giving in to backache.

Mainly a greenhouse day, apart from deadheading some narcissi and tulips. Noticed I have two rows of beetroot and one of carrots growing in the veg beds. In the greenhouse I potted on some lupins, 11 melons, 16 tomatoes (am growing seven different varieties), seven courgettes (three varieties, awaiting a fourth emerging), and some rapa. Grew some lovely-tasting peas so will pop some more in. Broad beans have pods so will check them. I always grow more than we need so I can share with friends and neighbours.
