Sowed carrot seed in an outdoor trough and three varieties of tomato in trays on the kitchen windowsill.  Potted up some cuttings and weeded some pot-grown plants which I shall plant out some time this week.

Sieved my remaining compost pile, very happy with the fine mix I'm getting, I've orded a load from B&Q but I don't think it'll get here now.

Sowed a row of radish and Rocket, 1st attempt at veg in 8 years it was planned but looks like a panicked reaction. Also sowed a tray of of cut and grow again lettuce.

Being stuck home I wandered the garden and made a long list of jobs for the foreseeable future, it's a lot of tidying jobs like proper hosepipe storage and clearing rubbish away. It's all been forgotten in the 3 years of headlong garden building.

    Another beautiful day B).
Sorted through the plants in the coldframe,  potted on where necessary and threw 3 away (deader than a dead thing). Washed pots, saucers and seed trays , left them to dry in the sun while l had some lunch.
This afternoon, swept out the greenhouse and washed down the glass and staging.
Feel a. Virtuous and b. Filthy

    It’s been an allotment day
  • I did some hoeing, and painted a small wall with Sandtex, uncovered all the garden furniture,to enjoy a cuppa in the sun.
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.
  • Weather has been glorious today, pricked out and potted up some seedlings and had a tidy up around the garden, not much to do!

I finished cutting down perennial plants and all the dead canes from the big Stipa Gigantica - quite a job, involving lots of bending over (no sniggers there!). I also took a deep breath and cut down a Phlomis italica - decided it wasn't earning its keep and I didn't much like it. Once I've dug out the roots, there's a space for one of my new roses.

Began work on renovating the front lawn, which is full of humps, hollows, coarse grasses and weeds.  Started stripping off the turf about 2" deep, then digging the ground underneath to about 6", pulling out weed roots as I go.  I plan to leave the soil bare for a while so I can hoe off any weeds that try to reassert themselves, before re-seeding.

Sowed so cut and come again lettuce, potted up the last hollyhocks, potted up some aqueligia, pricked out Eupatorium. Have more aqueligia to pot up but have run out of pots, bought nearly 500 and they've all gone. Don't think I'll be popping out for more 🤣
  • Honestly, no. Just watch at my succulents))
