Am hardening off plants so it was all out of the greenhouse in the morning then back at night. Strimmed around all the beds and garden and edged with a spade. Mowed everywhere. Cleared all into the compost and mixed into a hot bin. My what a difference the garden is really looking alive now.

It’s sounding busy and productive out there folks.
I did my first wave of seeds today. All veg. I was going to do a flower cutting patch/pots this year but have changed my mind to use all the space and pots for vegetables (for obvious reasons). There will be flowers too but wanted to prioritise the veg.
Peas, beans, radish, tomatoes, spring onions, radish and lettuce so far. I have also done a tray of peas just for the pea shoots too.
My garden and I live in South Wales.

I bagged some lovely green bamboo canes from a neighbour who was cutting his down. Then helped OH do a lot of shredding of branches which were piled up in the raised veg beds over the winter - need to get cracking on these now it's dryer weather. I dumped 3 trugs of chippings over the mess under the birdfeeder, which was smelling disgusting.
Took the tulip pots out of the greenhouse as they are starting to flower and lined them up on the terrace so we can see them better - hope frost doesn't get them tonight. OH also mowed the front lawn late afternoon.

  • In the warmth of the greenhouse/conservatory I sowed some lettuce seeds, also 4 sweet peas in loo rolls. Weather was too cold to stand around outside.

Sent hubby outside to paint the fence, does that count?  I'm hoping I can pot on some more seedlings this afternoon.  Lots of plug plants should be arriving sometime this week so that will keep me busy.

Sat in the sun this morning with a cup of tea but I’m finding it hard to get going with the less inspiring garden activities today...

Did get the two roses in pots. Hubby dug over a third of the new bed, it's a bit hard going getting all the old roots out from the removed tree.

I too have plug plants due @Yviestevie , but one set are already a week over so don't know if they will come, or if they will turn up with the others due on the 30th.

I potted up the growing begonia corm into a hanging basket with fresh MPC, but have kept it in the kitchen where's warmer - it was quite cold overnight. Pruned the topiary 'dragon' on the rockery and cut down various overwintered perennials at last. Trying to pace myself and not over-do jobs.

Busy day here built some raised beds, these were to replace a long single bed a built last autumn more planning needed and come spring I realise I put it in a totally inappropriate spot that will be badly shaded most of the time.

The new ones are on a problem spot that has very thin soil over old brick laid floors (large parts of the garden are on top of very old farm buildings) and has become a lay down area for my work stuff like cement mixer and scaffolding. So it's looking loads better.

Cut the verges at the front of the house to make it looked cared for and put all the grass in the compost.

OH spent the day drinking coffee and reading good housekeeping magazines while in the swing chair and the boys danced around playing football and medieval knights, a proper mother's day !!
