Good Morning all. There has been a shower of rain but forecast promises a sunny afternoon. Lets hope that's the case. @AnniD. Hope the plumber was able to resolve your problem but sounded as though it may take some time. How annoying you couldn't get out to the greenhouse. Your MIL is a good age. Is there a good seating area in her garden for her to sit and watch? I am sure she will appreciate whatever you do for her. @Purplerain. Maybe when you go shopping with your sister you will pass a GC and all will not be lost. Things to plant tomorrow when you get in the garden. Haven't heard of Lewisia before so shall have to look it up. Hope you are pleased with your lavender when it arrives. I bought some from B&Q to replace some that haven't survived too well. Just love your hare! Looks good for 20 years. Will have to look out for one but don't think they would come cheap these days. @nultyphilip224. The sun has now come out so I should be able to make up time in the allotment this afternoon. I thought at first you were going to be right when I saw the rain. I go there with the intention of doing something particular and end up doing something totally different. Very good thread on the Neem oil. Let's hope it will be useful for other gardeners. Your Heucheras look very healthy. I can see from the photo how that one appears to be two. I shall look out for that. My three from The Secret Gardening Club arrived yesterday and I was amazed at how mature they were. They can go straight out into the ground. As good as some I have already got planted.
Hope the weather is good for you all and you enjoy your garden or your shopping.
Morning everyone, was here earlier then life (and other threads ) got in the way. @nultyphilip224 , l still love that pulmonaria, it keeps going for a very long time. My "Blue Ensign" ones have just about finished now. @Valley Gardener sorry to hear you're suffering with a sore throat, there are a lot of colds going around at the moment. Your OH's painting sounds like mine - it doesn't matter how careful l try to be, paint always ends up everywhere. At least he wasn't idle while you were away ! @Purplerain my problem with vine weevil in pots has only started in the last couple of years, and was more an annoyance than a major problem . When l checked the pots that had overwintered in the cold frames, there were more affected than l was expecting. I think that they are sorted at the moment, but l was planning to give most of them to a local charity shop to sell, and l certainly don't want to pass them on ! They will be double and triple checked before l load the car ! I like your hare, he reminds me a bit of Thumper in Bambi for some reason. @Fran IOM touch wood, the plumber has done the job. The house is toasty warm this morning, which is just as well as it is grey, very wet and distinctly chilly outside. Have been to GC this morning (Old folks discount day), bought a couple of obelisks and pots for the clematis. OH pointed out that they cost considerably more than the clematis. I just smiled sweetly (again). Hope you get to the allotment, and that everyone has a good day.
Back again! @Valley Gardener. Just don't know how your post got in front of mine. It definitely wasn't there when I posted. I know the time difference is almost half an hour. I think that because I saved mine when I was interrupted and didn't refresh it it didn't update. You live and learn. I think when you retire you expect things to be much simpler with plenty of time to do the things you enjoy but it doesn't quite work out like that and I often wonder how I managed to work and do all the decorating etc. The best thing I did was get my allotment as it takes me away from everything that needs doing! Plus the pleasure of course. Sorry to hear you are unwell. Hope it won't last too long. If OH mentioned anything about "doing something" I always change the subject as I know what could happen. Promise one day you will see the allotment! I think you are going to have some rather fat frogs in time to come. @AnniD. Good to hear you are keeping warm again. I have turned the heating off as the weather has improved. I could do with a few more pots and have not seen any obelisks for sale. You will have to tell OH that pots and obelisks last for ever whereas clematis could die or catch some disease hence the higher price. Really must stop going on the forum so often. Takes up quite a few hours a week don't you think? Rather addictive.
Hi Folks,..we had a fantastic day here,..warm and sunny,..the sight that made the day was to see that the river level has dropped,..the image below shows a small shrub/tree and the water weeds still clinging to the upper part.
Lots of wild birds.
Land to be seen at last on my side of the river,..still a way to go before all that is meadows,..there shouldn't be any water seen on the far side.
Garden visitors,..one adult Hedgehog seen yesterday,..all the images were captured while standing beside the Hedgehogs.
@Purplerain,..your routine was changed to go shopping with your Sister,..i hope it was a good days shopping,..beautiful figure of the Hare it gives the appearance of being a placid creature,..i haven't noticed them this side of the pond.
I like your Geranium,..is that Erysimum Cheri ''Bowles Mauve'' by any chance?
Never had much luck with Lavender in my garden but something i must try again but i would like to prepare a bed especially for it,..i hope your Lavender Plugs do well for you.
@Valley Gardener,..sorry to read that you have a sore throat,..the Card below might give some suggested relief.
Hopefully your Delphiniums will revive themselves,..on one occasion when i was away from home mine were well eaten by Slugs,..right down to the soil,..luckily i arrived home before they were completely eaten,..they were treated and i still have them to this day.
@Fran IOM,..i wrote that post letting people know that there were Safe Slug Pellets available,..plus at a reasonable price,..the message might get through,..as for the info on Lupine plants,..they are a Perennial but classed as a short lived Perennial,..in that they put so much effort into producing those tall spiral blooms that the plant dies off,..where that originated from is beyond me as i have mine for years,..another Myth is all i can call it is,..Lupins that self seed will produce blooms that are blue,..mine were yellow,..so the info is incorrect,..however what they got right is that seeds collected and sown will produce mixed blooms.
Good news about your Heuchera Plants,..all good healthy plants,..may they do well for you.
@AnniD,..strange thing about my Pulmonaria officinalis is that once there is something beside them that they can supported they will take advantage of it,..if nothing there they tend not to get as tall,..sorry that yours are almost finished,..mine are early starters in Spring and last quite a long time.
My greenhouse is still full,..Geraniums yes,..plus some seeds i was sent,..however there are a lot of seeds i am just trying out as they are very old seeds and may not grow anything,..i just watered all of these.
Fantastic pics of the hedgehogs! @nultyphilip224 Thank you for the get well card........oh to be able to get out of a bath!!! The raspberry Gin went down well last night!
I love all the Ice cream containers........where would we be without them? They fit very well along my porch shelves. Temps here were down to 1 last night, Had a tiny bimble down the garden yesterday, wrapped up warm, and it looks like the plant in a sock have all taken. Soon the jumbled wall repair will have some interest,I've put the Aubretia in it, and pyracantha to grow up but not invade the stones.
Have a lovely day everyone.
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.
Good morning all. @nultyphilip224 so glad you had a lovely day yesterday and to see that the water is receeding at last. It looks like a different place in the Summer. Yes, it is Bowles Mauve and quite an old one. I decided not to grow them again, but changed my mind and have some younger ones on the go. I took a look at the forum before I went to bed and you should have heard the squealy sounds I made when I saw that Mummy Hedgehog brought her children to meet you 😀. So cute!
@Valley Gardener I hope you are feeling better. I use Beechams all in one and Vic vapour rub when I get the lurgy. Good news that your socks in the wall are beginning to produce results. I love seeing walls with little plants growing through them.
@AnniD that is such a shame and a worry about the vine weevil. I wonder how you got them? Do you think something came in to your soil from an infested pot, or did they just appear from nowhere? I hope your treatment works in time for the sale.
@Fran IOM The heuchera sound lovely. I had a look at the SGC but didn't find anything I wanted this time. I seem to have forgotten my password, or maybe I didn't need one last time, I can't remember lol.
Finally, I thought I would give you a laugh. One of my tulip pots got dug up by a squirrel last winter so I left it to see what would happen.. this happened
Good Morning all. @nultyphilip224. You must be having the same weather as here. Last two days have been so warm and sunny and today promises to be the same. Got quite a lot done. Getting rid of some of the topsoil mound to spread around. Only trouble is it has to be weeded and riddled first and needs patience. No doubt I shall get to the end of it in time. Beautiful photographs and lovely to see the water level going down with the birds. You were lucky to catch the hedgehogs. Little family of them and so tame. Your geraniums are doing well. I have just bought two as I couldn't resist and they are well established. The ones I had last year are now showing signs of life. How much of my foxgloves should I have cut down once they had flowered? I only cut off the flowers and although they look healthy enough am not sure if they will flower this year. I bought a Cornus Winter Flame last year and had to pot it up for the winter and now it has started to grow. It still doesn't seem mature enough to plant out but where to plant! They do grow rather tall and wide but as mine is so small it will be some time before that happens. @Valley Gardener Do hope you are feeling better today. If you are having the same weather as here you could potter around the garden as it is definitely warm enough. Maybe OH will let you use his chair. Have you tried rubbing Vicks on the soles of your feet? Seems to be something quite common. @Purplerain Just noticed your post has popped up above mine. You don't need a password for SGC. The email comes each week. Your poor sad looking tulip! I have one very similar but can't put it down to squirrels. Just my inexperience or cheap bulbs. Looked up Lewisia yesterday and don't blame you for buying one as they are so pretty. Panicked yesterday when my laptop crashed but later it rectified itself so great relief.
Thankyou,i will try the Vicks. 😣 Checked on the Tads, they are swimming near the top now, after hiding for two days. I long to just go and fiddle about out there, but still really wheezy,so probably best to try and have patience. OH and daughter have gone off shopping, she goes back to Dorset tomorrow,I will miss her, she's so laid back, she hoiked the fairy into position, where the bird bath was,on an upturned stone pot, because I thought it needed a plinth! Now have to think of a suitable place for the bird bath!
PS. She's been allowed to sit in the shed!!😁😁😁
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.
@Valley Gardener, hope you are feeling a bit better today, did you try Philip's suggestion of the gin ? It is frustrating when you want to get out and about, but common sense prevails ! Your daughter's laid back attitude sounds good, which of her parents does she get that from ? @Fran IOM , glad the laptop recovered, it's scary really how much we depend on this technology ! I know what you mean about this forum, l get sidetracked by stuff all the time . @Purplerain , that tulip ! With regard to the vine weevil, they may have come from MIL's garden. OH brought back some polyanthus he found hidden under a load of other stuff, l tided them up and potted them, they seemed fine, then one day the signs of vine weevil grubs appeared and affected them one after the other. Also the sick euonymus that came from her garden the other week had the same thing. It could just be coincidence though. @nultyphilip224 Hedgehogs !! I haven't seen Hedgehog for a few nights now, but it has been quite chilly so l'm hoping that's the reason why. Glad the river levels are starting to fall. Did you eat all that ice cream yourself ? Finally, took FIL's car for it's MOT this morning, and OH treated me to breakfast in Morrisons (hang on, have just remembered l paid ) . He said he thought it would be a good idea to get a clematis for his mum's garden. Didn't need telling twice, suddenly l found myself back in the plant section again. Got one for her, "Bees Jubilee", then saw one called "John Paul 2". "Haven't seen that one before, l like that. I'll find somewhere for it" (You all know how it goes, admit it). Then on the way out we saw some bigger ones for £5 . "They might be better for your mum, a more instant effect, and they're montanas, she's got room for one of those". Short story shorter, his mum now has a clematis "Warwickshire' Rose" - and l've got two more clematis
