Apologies from a very shattered me 😀. The small child has just gone home. He woke me at 7am and said "I had a good sleep Granny, get up now". My reply to that was "Did you? That's good". (I was up four times with him and his sniffly cold). Tonight I am out at the theatre so if I am up to it, I will check in properly when I get home, if not tomorrow. Take care all.

  • Hi Folks,..terrible weather here,..windy with big hailstones but for the past few hours heavy rain.

@Valley Gardener,..so you have snow in the Valley with the mountain covered,..we were all thinking of plants blooming,..some changes,..luckily you had your OH get the plants under the Fleece.

I hope you found your Daughters visitor interesting,..he certainly lives another kind of life,..if he can cope with it and is happy top marks to him,..however there is the same life at an older age that might not be suitable at all.

@Fran IOM,..lol at it would be rude not to use your discount code and so purchased 3 more Hellebore plants,..any new coloured blooms for the future?.

No gardening for you either,..if its a consolation all of us are in a similar situation,..i have the compost to sow my Spring Onions and Lettuce,..alas weather stopped play.

I didn't make any plans with the garden,..i knew i wanted a Cottage Garden where one could not see everything from one spot and had to walkabout,..with tall plants and small plants combined and lots of roses and scents,..the garden has just grown until its full but still has paths,..no grass at all.

Seeing a cat look left and right before crossing the road,..reduces the worry one has about them just running into something,..clever cat.

@AnniD,..Sorry your plans to do some work in your Mum and Dads garden were prevented due to the weather,..its no consolation i know but its bad weather for gardening in most places.

My garden wasn't soggy up to today but after all the rain from mid day to now 1130,..i am sure soggy will be the description tomorrow.

@Purplerain,..oh i can relate to your being shattered,..being woken up so early by your little visitor,..they wear one down very quickly,..some years ago my eldest Son visited with two children in tow,..i was even handed a baby something i had not done for nearly 40 years,..my poor dog 'Hudson' and myself took days to recover after the visit,..my dog was in shock after being treated like a TeddyBear.

Hailstones today,..oh that's the cover on a bucket i keep my fire ashes in,..not a toilet lol.

    'Whisper',..a wise cat asleep indoors.

Opening buds on the Heuchera 'Minerva'.

Images of yesteryear,..'Dark Mullein in yellow blooms'.

    Cape Fuchsia 'Funfare Orange'.

    Cape Fuchsia 'Lemon Drops Cream'.

    Morning all.  :)
@nultyphilip224 , thank you for posting those photos of your garden to cheer me up ! I am going slightly stir crazy gardening wise. The wind is pretty strong this morning, the crows (or they might be rooks, l am no Bill Oddie ) are literally flying backwards and having a great time !
I plan to just check over the greenhouse today and make sure my dahlias etc. are okay.
Hope everyone has a good day, safe journey to the travellers.

Good Morning all. Yesterday managed almost an hour on the allotment in a bitterly cold wind until the rain came down and then had to give up. At least I got there and managed to achieve something albeit not a lot. Today doesn't seem too bad so far and hopefully will improve by this afternoon. Good forecast for the weekend and early part of next week.
@AnniD Well done on your self restraint. Who could resist at that price. Where do you plant your Clems to be able to climb as I seem to lack space for that type of plant. Would it climb up a tree?  :/  Have a pergola but that has climbing roses so no room there. I have two yet to go out - Westerplatte and Early Sensation.
@nultyphilip224. I seem to have a thing about Heucheras. Each one is totally different so it's not like having the same plants altogether. I went for two more of my favourites, Peach Flambe as it stands out with its colour and another Melting Fire. Will have to stop sometime but they are all for my pleasure anyway. I am trying to make the allotment a place where you don't see everything at first glance. Have some taller plants (trees almost) lower down so you can't see the rest unless you use the pathway and also taller shrubs in front of the seating area so that is not visible at first sight. All in the mind at the moment. I have an extremely large area of grass. It will never be a lawn and as I have mentioned before it still has a mound of topsoil to be dispersed elsewhere. I would like at some time to have more flower beds but that is just a thought. Last year the grass was knee high and I managed (over a good period of time) to cut it all by hand with the shears! Don't have a mower of any kind and it is so rough with all sorts of grasses and weeds I don't think it would be viable. Maybe one day I shall have some beautiful specimens like yours. I see Whisper has turned her back on us today...

    Have a good day all.

Morning all. Still cold here, but the rain has stopped for the moment. @nultyphilip224 we had hailstones here on Wednesday and everything else in between. I really laughed at the description of you and Hudson taking days to recover from small children. They can be exhausting. I hope you managed to get on with your vegetable planting. Apart from starting the peas, I am holding off with the rest of the veg for another couple of weeks. I did not enjoy the play I saw last night. I think the cast bit off more than they could chew and it didn't work.

@Valley Gardener I hope you enjoyed your holiday and it was lovely to see you together with the great grandchildren looking so happy. It was interesting to read about the old hippy, but as Philip said, it might not be the easiest way to live as he gets older. I was one of those weekend hippies, with long hair and Kaftans, weird music and dancing, then back to normality for work on Monday. It was good fun.

@Fran IOM I hope you get a chance to put out some of your lovely plants. Hopefully the soil will begin to dry out and you can get on with it. My walks last an hour and I would guess they cover a couple of miles. I do them with a group that can swell to 50 on a nice day and we go at a cracking pace. That is enough for me though, with none of those marathon hikes that some like to do.

@AnniD I have just seen your latest post of the crows flying backwards. That is such a good description of a high wind lol! I know we are all itching to get out and get on with things, but hopefully the weather will improve soon. Did your plumber come?

Have a good day everyone. You got in before me Fran, just going back to read your post.

@Purplerain. We must have been posting at the same time. I am hoping the weather will improve. Don't mind as long as it's not raining. You must feel fit after an hour long walk. Takes me all my time to walk to the shops! I think you must cover more than a couple of miles in that time. What type of areas to you take your walks and how often? Have a good day.

Yes, we were posting at the same time @Fran IOM. My walks are in a big park, with lots of hilly wooded areas, flat gardens and trails. I do it every Wednesday. Your idea for the allotment sounds great and, my goodness, you were brave yesterday. Take care.

A few minutes to have a look at what everyone's been up to! Some lovely images Philip in this dire weather,i bet Whisper is indoors in a cosy place, can't wait for the sun to come back!
OH is going on a tadpole hunt when the rain stops! He has a net,jam jar and Safari hat!
Apparently there are loads on one of the railway sidings!

I put my "extra"Clems to climb up with other clems! @AnniD ! You can always find room for them.
    @Purplerain you've had a busy time with your childminding,exhausting isn't it?@FranIOM don't go catching a chill out there,it's really been cold,even in Dorset,icy rain!
    Take care everyone!
Will have a proper catchup when I'm back. 🐱

@Fran IOM , my clematis are mostly in pots  - they have never been very happy in the garden here for some reason. There are only two that seem really happy, and that's "Princess Diana" and a Montana "Elizabeth".  I do have 3 others growing up trellis on a pergola,  l know one is "Guernsey Cream", can't think of the others off the top of my head, but although OH pickaxed his way through loads of builder's rubble and we replaced with decent topsoil, they have never taken off in the way l would like. I have vowed to feed and water more this year in the hope it does some good. I think you could grow them up a tree, l seem to remember Carol Klein doing that in her cottage garden programme , but that could have been one of my weird dreams.
I like your idea of making your allotment less "exposed", l was watching Frances Tophill on her new allotment on GW, and that was certainly open to the elements.
Have been out this morning, bought a large pot to put the clematis in (after l have potted it on at least once), then we called in at Lidl. Their clematis were £3.99 (how much ? ? :o ), and some genius had put them the other side of the tills, so people were going out, seeing them and had to go back into the store to pay. I know it was windy, but there was plenty of room in the entrance for them. l congratulated myself on my previous bargains, and came home  o:)
@Purplerain , it's been many years since I was around small children and they were exhausting then ! The plumber was due to come at lunchtime today having had to cancel yesterday, but he has had
to cancel again as he is unwell. "The Duster" has remained in the cupboard and will be staying there until Monday.  To be fair he has never let us down before, and has said he will service the boiler for free.
@Valley Gardener l have a picture in my head of your OH looking like Christopher Robin as he heads off on his tadpole hunt ! Hope he is successful .
Right, lunch calls, catch up later.  :)

Lol,..that's a great description of just how windy it was,..yep i can imagine the stir crazy feeling,..being confined because of the weather and the urge to get out into the garden to do so many things,..glad the few images helped  :)
