Good Morning all. @Valley Gardener first to post today. You will be enjoying your week in Dorset. Lovely to see your Great Grandson at such a lovely age. Do hope Hubby remembers your instructions.

The sun is shining I'm pleased to say. Yesterday was much colder and no sun but dry enough to do a couple of hours weeding etc. Possible showers today but hopefully will get more done.
@moragb1 Hope you are pleased with your Neem oil. I have sprayed my Echiums and they seem to be producing new leaves so I live in hope. I presume you can use it any time and not restricted to once a week/month. As it does no harm I would think not.
@AnniD. Maybe Mr Hog sends the mouse on ahead to check things out and then goes back to let him know if it's worth a visit. OH was out at the time of delivery. They are now hidden awaiting planting. Still thinking of a place to plant them (bulbs) and never think of that when ordering. I really must delete my emails without reading them. There will probably be one today from the Secret Gardening Club and I can never resist looking at what they have to offer.
@nultyphilip224. Your weather doesn't sound too good for the garden. I think after today our weather is going downhill. Hope all your clocks are now telling the right time. I still have a few to change but need something to stand on to reach them so keep putting it off. I haven't used the Voltarol yet as I just ache all over. My knees have had the winter to recover but it won't be long before I need to use it. Just having it available  so know it's there when needed. Can't believe the cheek of the dog walkers you have known. How many dogs were taken out for £250 a week? Ours only charges £9 an hour and usually is out for at least one and a half hours or more. She has announced she is pregnant so in time we shall have to find another. Buddy always comes home so happy and tired. So lovely to see Whisper so happy. I think it's a general saying today "I can't remember". I would lose count of how many times in a day I say it and hear it.
@Purplerain. Poking your finger into the bag to see the colour is something I would have done! Good job it was to your satisfaction as it was probably all on CCTV. I still have my bark to distribute which I am putting round the roses if that's a good idea. Got a really nice one for Mother's Day called Amelia. I shall let you know what my poppies are like when they arrive. Bet you are disappointed with your seeds. My first attempt at growing from seed (cosmos) is a dismal failure. Germinated ok but are so leggy I think they are destined for the bin. Must have done something wrong. I even picked the easiest thing to start with.  :/

Nearly lost the whole post just then. Phew.
Time to get a move on with hope for some gardening this afternoon. Hope this finds you all well.

Morning all, have been out to supermarket for necessities. Apparently one necessity was a clematis called "Voluceau"  B)
Never heard of it before, nice healthy plant. How they can sell them for £1.76 and presumably still make a profit is beyond me. I was very self restrained as there were at least another 4 l could have bought. Probably something to do with the fact that OH was with me. He went off to get a trolley and then walked straight past me. Apparently l was lurking in the corner. It's the plant section, where else would l be ? (Well, maybe the cream cake section, or the ice cream section, you get the picture).
@Valley Gardener glad you are enjoying your holiday and your new great grandson,  nice that he is a happy little soul.
@Fran IOM both Hedgehog and Mouse decided to stay at home last night, so the cat biscuits remain untouched for another day. Blackbird has been for his breakfast though. Window cleaner came yesterday so l had to move the bowl, soon as the window cleaner had gone, Mr B was outside the back door again fixing me with that beady look. He reminds me a bit of Gordon Ramsey, if you've ever seen that programme where he picks apart plates of food, it's just like that. "What's this muck ? Where's the suet? What d'you call this ?".
Glad the weather is good for you, l have got rain, much needed.
@nultyphilip224 , hope things improve weather wise for you, it looks a bit chilly for the rest of the week. On a serious note, I hope you don't mind me waffling on on here, this was to be a thread about your beautiful garden and l'm yakking on about mice, hedgehogs and lord knows what else. I honestly wouldn't be offended if you wished me to desist so please don't feel you have to be polite.
Right off for a cuppa and some garden planning. Have a lovely day everyone.   :)

  • Just another Quickie....... I was drawn to Philips thread because of the "Cottage" garden,i knew it was my sort thing,Herbs amongst the flowers, experimenting in various pots round the garden, and a garden evolving, not regimented! I hate lawns, they're a waste of time and space! And can you imagine one in my little patch?
@AnniD I don't think you can have enough clems, you should have snuck in a few more at that price!!

@AnniD. I am sure you make Philip smile when he reads your posts. You are not the only one who "waffles" on here but I can appreciate why you needed to bring the subject up.  :)

    Thanks @Fran IOM:)
  • Hi Folks,..its very windy here,..Rain and Hail this morning on the Doggy Walk with some Snow thrown in.

@Valley Gardener,..very nice of you to drop in when you are in Deepest Dorset,..you seem to be having a good time and being entertained by your very happy smiling Grandson,..good for you,..ah its nice to know you were drawn towards my Cottage Garden and have remained here ever since,..thank you,..a picture of the garden back in 2014,..2017,..2018,..just to get you in that Spring Mood.

    2017.

    2017.

    2018.

@Fran IOM ,..you are having sunshine,..lucky you and weeding for a few hours,..though aching all over,..sort of comforting to know its gardening ache lol.

Oh you can use the Neem Oil Mix as often as you wish,..it wont do any harm to your plants and more than less is probably what you need if the nibblers have being resident for some time as their eggs will hatch even though the Adults were put off.

It was £250 for two dogs,..per week,..one other Dog Walker had left the Water Bowl full of water but also a vast amount of Dog hairs in it,..not forgetting the entire house full of hairs suggesting the dogs were not out very often,..in the end i settled for a Kennel Care,..it was cheaper by £40,..at £210 for the week and both dogs in a large cage to themselves.

Its a shame that you will have to look for a new Doggy Walker,..seeing ''Buddy'' is so happy with the present Girl,..i wish you luck on that search.

Sorry to read your Cosmos turned out so leggy,..sounds like  the time between seedlings to planting out was prolonged,..you could nip the tops and gradually get them planted out as the weather improves,..even VERY LEGGY seedlings can straighten out and be a success.

Oops,.. i have said often when i presumed i lost the post i was making,..then back paged by the arrow on top left of your Browser and lo and behold the post was still there,..seeing it was a long post with images i nearly freaked out lol.

@AnniD,..Waffling lol,..i never mind at all,..it just shows you are enjoying yourself so go for it,..i can Waffle and bore you all with images lol.

Soooo you went for the necessities and one turned out to be Clematis ''Voluceau'',..at the price of £1.76 it was necessary to go for that,..oh and what restraint only purchasing one when there were four,..like you i can never understand how someone can sell at that price,..there couldn't be any profit there?.

Your Hedgehog and Mouse remained at home,..sensible creatures as its gone so cold,..no sign of my Hog last night either.

Passing the Hardware Store today and spotted they has All Purpose Compost going at £12 for three 75 Litre bags,..they are very heavy and not easy to grip in order to carry,..managed to get them into the car but the problem was when i got home,..then it dawned on me that last Summer i rescued a shopping cart where someone had abandoned it near the house,..it was ideal,..one bag at a time,..four rubber wheels went smoothly,..glad i kept it.

    Observed by ''Whisper'',..who was thinking,..it won't work!.

Morning all. I had a busy but productive day yesterday, even doing a late night shop which is not something I normally do. My little friend the grandson (not the mouse) is coming to stay over today so had to get lots of goodies and treats in.

@Valley Gardener it is lovely when the little ones smile at you, and at five months, he will be very cute. I hope you are enjoying your Dorset trip.

@nultyphilip224, I saw a contraption similar to your basket in a gardening/hardware store recently and thought how useful it would be for lugging heavy bags of compost about. It was about £15 and I wish now that I had bought it.

Last year I planted a hydrangea vanille frais, but I was worried that it had died as it was just four browns sticks. Yesterday, I noticed some buds erupting from the stem, so it's all good. I'm looking forward to that one.

Your garden photo's are so interesting, in the way it is constantly changing, and I too was drawn to your Cottage Garden thread because of all the images and advice.

@AnniD I hope the hedgehog and the mouse come back soon. I have enjoyed reading about them.

@Fran IOM I managed to buy another bag of bark last night and had a little poke around to make sure it was the same stuff lol. Your rose sounds very nice, but don't give up on the Cosmos. They do tend to get leggy but when I pot them on I bury them deeper. I did around fifty of them the other day.

Of to get ready for my Wednesday walk, but it is looking quite sleety out there. Have a good day all.

    Hi everyone!
I sent a pic of me and great grandchildren to you all ....pm! I don't think I'm getting it right!! Silly old trout!

Popped into the Range yesterday for a folding deck chair (for the shed) and my daughter showed me the most amazing folding truck, she's saving to buy one for when she goes camping,it just folds flat......fantastic for garden or beach and camping!  Do have a look if you have a Range nearby.

Good Morning all. Disappointed to wake up to heavy rain and strong winds. It is a lot brighter now but still raining. You never know it could have changed by this afternoon.

@nultyphilip224. It sounds as though you have had all weathers thrown at you. Hope it is better today. Yesterday I managed another two hours and when finished it started to rain so was lucky. Your garden is stunning. Looks like you're in another country. When did you first start on it? Pleased I can use the Neem oil at any time as I won't then have to rely on slug pellets as I don't like using them. The cost of your previous dog walkers seems extortionate. Or was it for a week whilst you were away? The description of their house sounds as though they were just doing it for the money and not for love of dogs. Our dog walker has a friend who may be able to take over from her. Shopping trolleys could be the ideal thing to have for gardening. I know I could find a use for one. After your post the SM's may find they are missing quite a few. When I thought I had lost the post (I always use the mouse) I had touched the other method most people use and got something completely different on the screen but somehow managed to get it back again. I keep saving drafts now during posting so I wouldn't lose too much. If that makes sense. Whisper was obviously wondering what on earth you were doing. I am pleased to say that I have found out more about the cat that came to my allotment. She was there yesterday looking really well and let me pet her then she left. Apparently her owners only moved a few minutes walk away and she must find her way back now and then. Quite a walk for a cat with one busy road to cross. She must miss the place as she would have gone there long before I acquired the it.
@AnniD. Have you been back for the other clems yet? You could go on your own. Seems strange that neither hedgehog or mouse have been back. Mr Blackbird (aka Gordon Ramsey) has become rather fussy of late.. If I can't find a juicy worm for mine he gets dried mealworms. Haven't seen my robin for a while. When the dog had a good combing the other day I put all the dog hair into a bird feeder and it soon disappeared so there must be a few nests smelling of our Buddy. Keep waffling we love it...
@Purplerain. You will enjoy your day with your Grandson I'm sure. Hope the goodies don't have too much sugar in them or you will be exhausted by the end of the day. Have you got enough bark now? My cosmos have had a reprieve. Both you and Philip seem to think I have still got hope. How you had the patience to pot up 50 I don't know. That is something I lack and probably why I would rather go out and buy the established plant. I don't really have the room either. That's my excuse.

Hoping you all enjoy your day gardening or otherwise. Here's hoping the weather improves for us.
