  • @Fran IOM,..ah so you are hooked on Heuchera Plants,..i am not familiar with your new 'Peach Flambe',..i do have 'Melting Fire',..they look fantastic when the sun shines through their leaves,..i was gathering some of mine together today 14 in all most are in the soil but there are a good few in the image below,..nine i think,..i only had three up to last year so the increase is due to dividing.

Cutting all that grass with just a shears is hard work,..would you not consider making the area level then covering it with Anti Weed Matting then gravel on top,..some friends just used those heavy plastic sacks instead of the Anti Weed Matting,..with just a few holes with a fork to allow water to escape,..so the gravel was the only real expense.
  • @Purplerain,..truing to imagine you as a Hippie with long hair and Kaftans,..i have a friend in England who has platted hair with beads and wears Kaftans,..a lovely girl i must say,..i invited her on a holiday to Spain with some other friends from America,..i was very glad she was there as we were the only two using the knife and fork properly.

Oh that was some experience with those children,..my head was in a buzz and they were pulling out things like a Saw and Screwdrivers from heaven knows where,..mine of course,..at one stage the baby was staring at the dog 'Hudson',..the dog got nervous and backed off never having come up so close to a child,..luckily the child was taken away before it attacked the dog.

Mentioning dog,..i have a sick doggy here and so the change in posts,..puking dog,..ate something that crunched while we were in the Park,..i presume a Chicken Bone,..and so off to the Vet tomorrow,..i made the mistake of asking,..are you sick pupsy,..then it started shaking,..they do that,..of course that reaction has being displayed when i asked before,..when it wasn't sick.

I didn't manage to do my veg planting today,..i went back to bed and didn't wake until 0200,..just fizzled out from over two weeks of a five hour nightly sleep,..its my usual reaction lol.

Sorry to see you didn't enjoy the play,..you get one every so often that doesn't seem to be quite right.

'Whisper',..has started sitting beside me when i am on the Laptop.

A few minutes to have a look at what everyone's been up to! Some lovely images Philip in this dire weather,i bet Whisper is indoors in a cosy place, can't wait for the sun to come back!
OH is going on a tadpole hunt when the rain stops! He has a net,jam jar and Safari hat!
Apparently there are loads on one of the railway sidings!

Yes indeed its really the only time 'Whisper' comes indoors,..either bad weather or when she is not feeling well,..when the latter happens she sleeps for hours,..doesn't move so to check she is still alive i have to gently poke her,..then she just squints at me.

Lol at how i imagine your OH heading off with the small net and jam jar,..wearing a Safari Hat to go hunting Tadpoles,..i hope his luck is in and gets lots for your water feature.

    Almost opened Amaryllis 'Minerva'.

  • Lupins are thriving due to all the rain we had.

I still have a Chicken Wire frame over the ones nearest the house,..the timing is right to take that frame off and place it over my Lettuce and Spring Onions.

Delphiniums thriving,..nearly time to begin sticking down tall canes as these Delphiniums were over 2 Metres high last summer.

I was searching for Snails today,..didn't come across one,..normally they would be along a wall where i have my Clematis 'Freckles',..but i did start using Slug Pellets well before Spring,..so they were well zapped,..now its just Neem Oil Mix,..we have Bees in the garden today,..still a tad for them to be out and about.

A fiend in America sent me some seeds last year,..i sowed them and tagged them 'Tiger Flower',..that's what i was told they were,..at first they looked and felt like 'Hellebore',..well i got that wrong and not 'Tiger Flower',..as my ones are nothing like the images below,..any ideas folks?.

Good Morning everyone. The sun is shining and the wind has dropped and forecast good with temp of 12c. Perfect gardening weather it would seem.
@Valley Gardener I am assuming you are not home yet. Hope you don't feel too tired after getting up so early but then you did go back to bed. Hope OH was successful with his hunt for frog spawn. Who knows you could have a garden full of frogs before long. Think I will plant one of my Clems with another and let them mx together. I was pleased to see that the clem I cut right down and the honeysuckle have started producing shoots. The Honeysuckle hasn't flowered yet so hoping this year it will.
@Purplerain. Was the play you went to see a well known one or something completely new to you? My Granddaughter went with the school yesterday to see Macbeth. They had to walk there and back in the pouring rain. Haven't had any feedback yet. The park where you take your walk sounds like a good place to go.
@AnniD  Know what you mean by getting caught up with other threads. You can lose track of time. Hope all goes well with digging up the plants. Hope your Dahlias were ok. Do your clems in pots have something to climb up? I am going to see if it will work if I plant one of mine under the tree. You managed to get out of Lidl plant free. Why pay £3.99 when you can get them for £1. My allotment is completely enclosed and private not like you would see where people have plots. At the beginning there was one side which was open to all and sundry but my son erected a fence and gate which I can lock. One side is a stone wall next to the street and the other side is a tall privet hedge separating mine from the neighbour. Top end is more privet and a tree. Hard to describe. I must walk up one side and count the paces just to give you an idea of the area. You are probably non the wiser! Hope your plumber arrives on Monday and the duster sees some action.
@nultyphilip224   Your heucheras look very healthy. Peach Flambe is very similar to the ones in your photos. It really is a bright colour and stands out amongst other plants. Is that a little stone cat in one of the pots or do I need to go to specsavers? I had forgotten that you could split the Heucheras so I must remember in the future and save some money. Some of mine have already flowered. As yet have seen no bees and have only found one snail which didn't look as though it had any life in it. You should put the photo of the unknown plant on another thread to see if anyone comes up with ideas. My lupins are just about ready to plant out but may wait a bit longer. So sorry to hear that Foxy Molly isn't well. The same thing happened to Buddy last week. He was sick and that produced twigs which I can't imagine him being able to swallow. Was worried it could splinter his insides. He recovered very quickly fortunately so didn't need to take him to the vets. Do hope Foxy Molly recovers soon.

Time to get things done so that there will be time this afternoon to garden. Went yesterday just to feed the birds but ended up digging up some Spanish bluebells which do usually look nice and haven't spread too much but choke my Crocosmia. Yes it had left some space!

@nultyphilip224, some gorgeous pictures there! I am inspired to grow more Heuchera. I particularly like that amber/peachy coloured one. I don't know what that leaf could be, but you could throw it out there to see if any other posters know.

Yesterday, I gingerly stepped outside because I had a strange pot that was perfect for putting a Lewisia Cotyledon on its side. Anyway....4 hours later I was still there. The weather was warm with blue skies and a mild breeze so I hope it comes your way. Watched GW, but half an hour is never enough, so went back to last years GW on 20th April (I think it was that one) and at around 43 minutes he talked about Leucojum Aestivum. That surprised me because I didn't remember it when you showed it to us. I am glad that you managed to get some sleep. You must have needed it. I hope Foxy Molly recovers from whatever she was eating. Keep us updated. And, finally, for today, I spied your new glasses on the table lol.

@Fran IOM the description of your allotment is interesting because I always thought of them as windswept wide open places. One day (if you have a camera, or someone else does) it would be great to see it. The play was based on King Lear, being acted by amateurs and featuring Harrison Ford (not the real one but pretending to be). I think it was written by Ian Hislop and friends and might have worked in a Cambridge review show, with Blackadder type actors, but not by Scottish amateurs.

@AnniD and @Valley Gardener like you, I have spent too long here, so will catch up with you later.

  • @Fran IOM . Just had a text to say the hunt was a success, and there are Tads in the pond! So the railway sidings must've been a good hunting ground and I can't wait to see them!

Yes I'm home tomorrow, did my first walk today with daughter and dogs, legs a bit dodgy over the stiles, muscles are probably weak with all the months of inactivity, but this is the first sun,so we had to make the most of it.

I decided on a beautiful fairy for the garden, plus a smaller Moon gazing hare,to put beside the pond and a few Buddha's to dot around. Bought my friend a cat and mouse plaque(present from Dorset)  ,and got hubby a comfy chair for sitting in,or out of his shed.  Went a bit mad at the stone place, but the things she makes are very sharply defined,so you know the moulds are new!  (Chair is a folder, not made of stone !!!)

    Apparently the snow,hail,rain wind and thunderstorm,didn't shred the plants,so that's a relief.
@nultyphilip224 I'm so sorry to hear Foxy Molly is unwell,I hope she's perking up a bit now??

Will have to get packing now,it takes about 3 hours, depending on the  traffic on the M4.
Speak soon ,and enjoy your day in the sun everyone.😊🐸🌷🌺🌻

Well l did sit down at lunchtime, but got sidetracked by another thread (again) so decided to wait until later.
@nultyphilip224 , your story of the dog beating a strategic retreat before it was attacked by the child made me laugh. It is uncanny how children know where all the dangerous stuff is hidden.
I hope Foxy Molly is feeling better now, it's always a worry when they get ill.
Can't help with the plant id, sorry.
@Purplerain aka "hippie chick" - l am getting a picture of a Stevie Nicks character floating around in an ethereal manner. Am l close? I used to have a kaftan l got from Singapore Airlines in their material that the air hostesses wear. I used to imagine that l looked as lovely as they did, mostly by avoiding all mirrors in the house. Alas, it fell apart years ago.
Was the Ian Hislop play you saw called "Trial by laughter" ? A friend of mine saw it in Cheltenham and wasn't that impressed. She'd seen "The Wipers Times" and enjoyed that so was expecting something good but no.
@Fran IOM my clematis in pots are grown up small metal obelisks l have had for years. I need a couple more to support my Lidl bargains !
Maybe you could post a photo or two of your allotment sometime? It sounds different to the usual style.
@Valley Gardener , Glad the shopping trip turned out to be very successful, and the intrepid tadpole hunter was also successful. Safe journey home.
As for me, l went to mum and dad's for one euphorbia, and a salvia. Came back with 2 geums, 3 salvias, 3 small campanulas, one euphorbia and seven small box plants. He had other stuff but not really my cup of tea, and l am pushed for space as it is. Most of it will be going in the green bin, so l suppose it's not really going to waste.
Have planted them all out or in pots and am pretty cream crackered tbh.
Hope everyone had had/is having a good day.  :)
