Hi Folks,..fantastic day today,..not a drop of rain,..hardly a breeze,..nice and sunny,..so i managed to sow my Spring Onions 'White Lisbon',..plus Lettuce,..they should be ready to eat around June.
Arum Lily 'Zantedeschia aethiopica',..i have about seven of them in three locations,..one of them grows to over 150 cm,..at present its at 120 cm reading about this plant the usual tends to state that its height is 60-85 cm but i am sure i have come across them even higher than mine?,..i keep one of mine at the side of my greenhouse,..the tallest one,..it protects the greenhouse when there is a storm.
The only remaining bloom left on Amaryllis 'Royal Red'.
However Amaryllis 'Minerva' is doing well.
I wonder is there a scent?
Mmmmmmm not impressed!
@Valley Gardener,..You certainly were up early,..0430,..hardly worth going to bed,..Delighted to read that the search for Tadpoles was a success and i hope you have many many Frogs,..will your water feature be big enough?,..when you have Frogs.
You may be a tad stiff after your first walk but you made the best of the sunny day,..make hay while the sun shines lol.
Wow you have a good collection of figures for the garden,..a few Buddhas,..a Beautiful Fairy,..and a Moon Gazing Hare,..i don't think i have come across the latter,..oh not forgetting the Cat and Mouse Plaque for a friend and OH's folding Chair
@AnniD,..Clematis in pots is fine and a big pot of course as it saves so much bother when the plant grows,..you know the saying about caring for Clematis,..head in the clouds and roots in the shade,..not forgetting lots of water.
Our Courthouse has a Clematis growing up a very big tree its grown to the top at this stage and hides all the foliage of the tree when in bloom,..a very impressive sight.
Didn't you do well purchasing your Clematis for £1 before the price went up to £3.99,..oh hope you had a good day at your Mum and Dads garden and the weather was good to you.
@Fran IOM,..oh that Cat you spotted has a little bird as a friend,..its made of Fiberglass and was posted to me from a friend in Oregon,..i move it about from time to time as a cat would be inclined to do lol.
Yes do have a go at cuttings from your Heuchera plants,..the cuttings take quite easy,..in fact they nearly beg to be taken as they push themselves up out of the soil,..it increases your stock for free.
That unknown plant of mine will have to go into the plant ID Thread,..though looking at it today it looks like a couple of Dahlia plants.
'Buddy',..swallowing Twigs is scary,..as much as Chicken Bones,..i never gave any of my dogs Chicken Bones as they are so sharp when its a roasted Chicken,..a friends Wife gave their dog some and it killed the dog,..cut its insides.
Foxy Molly is fine today,..it wasn't a Chicken Bone as i presumed but something with legs and so the noise of crunching i heard,..a Bird or Mouse the Vet said,..you just don't know what they will pick up.
@Purplerain,..yes you thinking of growing more Hellebore as well,..go for it,..you can experiment with one to start and they seldom fail to root once you use the Rooting Powder and get a nice piece of plant stem.
Sorry you didn't like the version of 'King Lear',..though it can be overplayed at times,..so you also had good weather arrive,..nothing like that and gardening to boost the morale,..soooooo you spotted my glasses on the table,..it was the cat you were supposed to be looking at lol,..its amazing what people leave in an image that can raise an eyebrow,..dust,..fluff,..scruffy bathroom and so forth,..i try to be careful,..though i didn't mind glasses lol.
Digging up Spanish Bluebells can be a tough job as they really can dig in,..as you mentioned best to move them or have them choke your Crocosmia,..i am always moving plants around for similar reasons,..oh Crocosmia are £7 each in our Hardware Shop,..costly,..i got rid of about 100 last Summer as they were taking over.
@nultyphilip224 Just having a last peruse before bed. So glad Foxy Molly is feeling better,as you say you never know what they will pick up,our dog was kept on his lead all the time in Spain, even though we had a vast empty Rambla nearby.......the huntsmen put down poison for the foxes,so there wasn't a shortage of rabbits. Horrible! Minerva is looking good,it's nice that she's followed on from Royal red,and I love that luscious jungle plant by the greenhouse! Yes the pond is quite deep,no fish of course, steps to get out in a couple of places, and lots of hiding places with shade from the Hostas,no pumps or anything, just for wildlife.
Google the Hares, beautiful images. April is a "Hare"moon! I might be a bit pagan!
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.
Morning everyone, nearly got sidetracked by other threads again, but managed to avoid temptation and come here first! @nultyphilip224 glad Foxy Molly is feeling better, must admit l went a bit green when l read about what she had probably eaten ! That arum lily is very striking, a wonderful size, and l think Foxy Molly is looking at the amaryllis in awe, rather than being unimpressed ! I am trying to be organised and have a list of all the things l need to do today, including sorting out 70 small plug plants (marigolds), and potting on the clematis. What's the betting l get sidetracked again ? Still, that's the joy of gardening. Have an enjoyable Sunday everyone
Good Morning all. Another promising day. Dry no wind but no sunshine yet. 13c. Hopefully it will last till this afternoon. @Purplerain The allotment is totally secluded from anyone else. There are probably about ten allotments in total and very few are used as such although in years gone by they would probably have provided families with their food. Some are mainly places to chill out but some have been ruined by making them into children's playgrounds with no greenery whatsoever. One or two have been neglected. If I walk from the gate right round the whole area of mine it takes 110 walking steps! Each one is private so they are entitled to use them as they wish. As soon as it's looking more presentable I will get my daughter to take some photos or even a video. Haven't had any feedback on Macbeth yet as they are away on holiday. @Valley Gardener Hope you feel refreshed after your holiday but the travelling takes it out of you. Did Cush welcome you back? You did well bringing back so many things for the garden. No doubt we shall see photos soon and one of the tadpoles. Cush will probably be interested in them. Hope OH feels comfortable in his chair. Have you been in the shed yet or is OH sitting on guard in his chair outside? Take it easy with the walking. @AnniD Think one of my clems is going to have to go with the other climbing the shed. The other I am going to attempt to grow up the tree. Don't have anything that would act as an obelisk. Had to go to a certain SM yesterday beginning with T and OH lost me and saw the plant section (and me) and said "That figures". Wasn't impressed with any of their plants. I hate going there and only go to get the dog's mixer as it is reasonably priced plus a few other things which usually end up in the trolley. @nultyphilip224 Forgot in my last post to mention about the grass area on the allotment. The pathway round the area is pebbled and flower beds next to that. The grass area is somewhat large so for the time being it will have to remain. Will try in some way to measure it out to give you some idea. A photo would be nice! Might just split one of my heucheras when moving them and see how they react. They seem pretty hardy and have survived the winter ok. My Astilbes are now showing signs of life. All chicken bones are kept well away from Buddy as being a Labrador he will eat anything. I don't even like giving him marrow bones from the butchers in case a bit chips off. We have warned the dog walker about the twigs. So glad Foxy Molly is ok now. Found a skeleton of a little bird in the allotment one day and I can imagine it would crunch if eaten by a dog. Could waffle on a lot longer but will leave you all in peace. Have a good day.

@Valley Gardener,..i had a look at the figures of the 'Hare',..beautiful figures,..i never heard of the ''Hare Moon'' before you mentioned it,..how did i miss out on that,..i hear of the Chinese years and what represents each year,..now as for 'Little People',..them i do know about,..Fairies and Wood Nymphs,..Goblins and Brownies,..i even have a Wood Nymph figure,..sitting on an Chestnut.
Its a shame you had to keep your dog on a lead in Spain because of Farmers laying down poison to kill Foxes,..they do something similar here but do put up a notice,..the latter doesn't really do a 100% job as dogs can not read,..before the dog owner discovers the sign its too late.
Oh your pond is ideal for Frogs,..i didn't realise it was so well prepared for Wildlife,..well done you.
A yes 'Minerva' just came at the right time,..just as 'Royal Red' is almost finished,..though 'Royal Red' has a Pup that will flower plus i have another Amaryllis named 'Artic White',..no sign of it blooming yet,..Amaryllis bloom when ever they feel like it,..i have had them bloom in December.

@AnniD,..i do get sidetracked myself,..in particular if i posted the reply to a question,..do i answer the response first,.. or come on here first.
I don't blame you getting a bit green about what Foxy Molly may have eaten,..i got a worse shock seeing what it looked like.
Gardening i do like but when it comes to 70 small plug plants,.. removing them and planting them out it does test my patience,..today i started cutting down a Mahonica 'Japonica',..a very prickly job,..the leaves are worse than Holly leaves,..so finding a spot where there were no leaves as a holding area while i used a Saw to cut i still got prickled,..i hated getting rid of this Tree,..it started as a cutting back in 2004,..its approx 3 Metres high,..it looks very nice when in bloom and the fruits look like Damsel fruits,.. but the prickly leaves are its downfall,..my Cat and Dog avoid the area around it due to fallen leaves.

@ Fran IOM,..you surely are having good gardening weather,..fingers crossed for you that it keeps up,..thankfully its similar here,..lovely gardening weather.
Thanks for giving the description of your allotment,..i can see it in my mind now,..the pathway around the area being pebbled is a bonus,..lol a photo will do sometime in the future.
Astilbes coming awake is a good sign,..everything else will follow suit,..oh yes a wee bird can make a sounding crunch when being scoffed by a dog,..worse is when it comes back out yuck!.
I sit looking at this scene when having a tea break.
''Oreo'' the Cat has moved to the same spot as from today.
She has a little Bird friend.
Heuchers 'Palace Purple'.
Looking down on the Delphiniums and Lupins,..there are more Lupins below the 2 Pots on the bottom.
@nultyphilip224 what a lovely wood nymph,i love the way she's on the rocks, with bits and pieces growing around, and the mossy cat! Brilliant! I expect you say "hello" to them like i do to the plants. We have quite heavy rain today, after nice sunshine yesterday,so the stone bits will have to wait to be located. Two of my Delphiniums were shredded in the hail,I'll wait and see what happens.
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.
Morning everyone, only posted a reply on one thread this morning, so l am getting more disciplined! Bit of a grey murky start, but today the plumber is coming (fingers crossed), so "The Duster" is getting another outing. I hope it can cope with the excitement. @nultyphilip224 all the plug plants are done and everything else l planned as well. OH brought back an extremely sick pink from his mum's. I took cuttings from that and also divided a hosta that was infested with weeds. It gives me satisfaction rescuing plants where l can. MIL used to be a keen gardener, like my mum, so we plan to replant things where possible and hopefully have a small seating area done so she can get back out and enjoy the garden again. She will be 90 this year, and we hope to get it done by her birthday in July. I forgot to mention that when l took the plants from dad's garden, there was a really tame Robin who took great interest in what we were doing. He (?) was very cute, and chased off another one who came to have a look. Dad's soil is lovely, very loamy from all the compost etc. Mum put in over the years, l was very envious. Anyway, l have waffled on (again), time for breakfast and then the ceremonial unveiling of "The Duster". Have a good day everyone
Morning everyone. I was staying with my daughter at the weekend, and forgot my ipad. I have lots to catch up on here. I love all the garden ornaments and have a few myself including a greyhound and a hare. I loved the hare so much that I brought him indoors, but I think it is time for him to get back in the garden. I will post a photo when I get him in position.
Your allotment sounds so special @Fran IOM and as you want tall plants enclosing you, I am sure Philips garden must be inspiring.
@AnniD I really hope your plumber turns up this time. Finding good tradesmen is hard, so I tend to forgive them the occasional no show. You must be tired after planting out all the plug plants. Well done. I spend more time thinking about what to plant rather than actually planting.
@nultyphilip224, so glad Foxy Molly is ok. Poor wee soul, but she is lucky to have you, and I also think she was impressed with your Amaryllis. Had a wander round this morning and the astilbes and hosta I split are all showing signs of life so that is encouraging. Are you finding things slower this year? I am getting impatient. I suppose a lot of people are not really thinking about gardening yet, but us keen ones are all watching everything and notice these things.
@Valley Gardener glad you got home safe and your wildlife pond sounds great. I hope it fills up with frogs for you and OH.
I am going plant hunting in Lanark with my daughter in law today. The marvellous thing is that she is the one who wants to do it. At last, one of my brood has got the gardening bug. I thought it would never happen lol. Take care all.
