Good Morning all. Yet another beautiful day but have an appointment this afternoon so don't think I shall have the time for the allotment but at least will go to feed the birds and see what has changed since yesterday. It's surprising what can change overnight. Got yet more weeding done yesterday and planted one of my clems to climb up the tree. Hopefully it will work. Had two chaffinches visit yesterday for the first time that I have noticed as it's usually nothing but bullfinches. They love the fact that the soil has been turned over.
@nultyphilip224. Your angel looks well placed with the stones as background and I do love the cat and bird. I usually give myself a break to sit down for a while just to look around and usually see something that needs doing and have to get back on my feet again. Don't think that day will ever come when there is nothing that needs attention. Don't blame you for having your tea break with all those lovely plants to look at. I have a snail made out of stone which hasn't reached the allotment yet and could be a deterrent to the live ones who knows.
Had a thought that maybe you would be willing to explain on a thread "Lupins going Yellow" about the use of neem oil. (Rather a lot of use of slug pellets and no other explanation.) It would be good if you could persuade others not to use the pellets. See what you think.
@Valley Gardener. Sorry to hear about your delphiniums. Hope they recover. If the cat appears at the allotment I always have a conversation with her and wonder if anyone in the neighbouring plot thinks I have a friend with me. I do talk to myself a lot out loud! Must be my age. Hope your weather improves to allow you to put out all your new stone goodies.
@AnniD Hope the duster gets to work before the plumber arrives. Do hope you can get your Mum out into the garden again. Sounds like you are doing a good job.
@Purplerain I have a thing about hares. I think they are so beautiful. Understand you keeping him indoors but in this better weather you can enjoy him outside. I am sure you will return with some more plants and no doubt advise your daughter on what's best for her.
It has taken me forever to type this post as I have one line of keys on the laptop which stick but once I get going they seem to work. This morning they seem to be worse than usual.
Have a good day all with some positive results in the garden.

Afternoon all, sitting here wrapped in a blanket, as plumber has arrived ! System has been drained and there is a lot of talk about pumps etc. between him and OH. Normally l would escape to the garden or greenhouse but it's raining, and trying to get out of the door involves an obstacle course of hosepipe, buckets, toolbox etc.
@nultyphilip224 forgot to say how pretty that fairy is, she looks very happy amongst the plants.
@Fran IOM Let's just say that my mother in law can be hard work and always has been, but she is getting old and suffering aches and pains. I think it would be nice to get her out in the fresh air and enjoying her garden as much as she can , just sitting there listening to the birds etc.
@Purplerain hope you had a nice weekend at your daughter's house . I always bring my buddha into the greenhouse over winter. I know it's daft but l don't like to think of him sitting out there in the cold, so l know what you mean about bringing your hare indoors.
Right, time to put the kettle on again, and dig out the biscuits. Laters.  :)
  • @nultyphilip224 what a lovely wood nymph,i love the way she's on the rocks, with bits and pieces growing around, and the mossy cat! Brilliant! I expect you say "hello" to them like i do to the plants.
We have quite heavy rain today, after nice sunshine yesterday,so the stone bits will have to wait to be located.
Two of my Delphiniums were shredded in the hail,I'll wait and see what happens.
@Valley Gardener,..i do tend to mumble at the plants and pretend its directed at Foxy Molly,..just in case anyone can hear me,..the plants do react by being healthy or indicate when all is not well and i am supposed to notice any strange behaviour,..if i don't then i am likely to loose that plant,..thankfully that seldom happens as they are very good at showing signs,..oh sorry to see two of your Delphiniums were shredded in the Hail downpour,..nip off some of the shredded leaves so the plant won't be using up its energy trying to keep the shredded leaves alive,..unless the roots are damaged your two plants should revive,..don't remove all the leaves.

@AnniD,..well done getting all those Plug Plants done,..you were very lucky seeing the rain arrived,..oh and the Plumber as well,..hoping he doesn't charge too much,..not sure i like the sound of the Plumber and your OH discussing Pumps.

I agree with you its nice when one rescues a plant,..the satisfaction is nearly as good as when one rescues a Pet,..you will remember that plant into the future and from whereit came.

So there is a friendly Robin in your Dad's garden,..they can be very territorial and dislike another Robin invading their garden,..they are also so very trusting,..i  have one in my garden and i always fear for its safety as 'Whisper' the Cat can move very quickly and can be fierce even on Butterflies.

  • @Purplerain,..Hoping you had a nice weekend with your Daughter and the weather was kind to you.

Looking forward to seeing the Hare when you take it outside and find a nice location,..i take my Wood Nymph indoors over winter as well  :).

Good to see your Astilbe and Hosta are showing signs of life,..its a good time for cuttings and dividing as the ground is not dry and the frost has departed,..hopefully.

Plants are advancing in fits and starts,..they started well with the fine weather then suddenly the hail arrived and frost not forgetting the strong breeze,..that's when things slowed down a tad but its off to a running start again,..thankfully.

@Fran IOM,..i hate it when i am winning and getting things done,..then up comes an appointment or something else to take me away from the run i am in with garden work,..you think that next day you will catch up,..guess what,..then it rains.

I thought it was just me who sits down in the garden to enjoy a tea break,..then before i can fully relax i see something needing attention,..a container moved,..something dead heading,..a broken branch that could be used as a cutting,..there goes my relaxing Tea Break.

Oh i posted a Thread as you suggested,..about the 'Neem Oil Mix',..and Slug Pellets,..the Safe ones i explained,..if someone responds i can explain further,..though its more an announcement of Delphinium and Lupins and what one can do with them at the moment,..cuttings,..plus the Lupins remedy for when they go yellow due to lack of Iron and or Lime in the soil,..my Dad and his friends used 'Epsom Salts',..it worked,..also good for giving a poorly rose bush a boost,..oh the Thread is in 'Problem Solving',
  • Now that it has something to grow up against Lungworth 'Pulmonaria officinalis' is climbing.

Heucherella 'Sweet Tea',..was bred by the growers using Heuchera 'Villosa'.

Where it reaches soil level you will see what appears to be two plants,..remove some of the soil around one of the sections,..cut it off then dip it in Rooting Powder or Rooting Gel,..pot it in a good soil and leave it outdoors,..it will root in a few weeks.

Morning all. Still a bit chilly here, but looks promising for getting things done. Guess what? I have to meet my sister today as she is coming up for shopping 😀. Never mind, I will get a clear run at the garden after walking tomorrow.

My enthusiastic daughter in law did well yesterday and bought various plants that should do well in her coastal garden. I was very good and just bought one more Lewisia for £2. However...when I came home I ordered lots of lavender plugs from Brookside nursery. I have never used them before, and they were cheap so we will see.

I was interested to read the thread about nematodes @AnniD. I see that you use them in pots but it is not something I have had to do. I don't seem to get vine weevil, and the garden problem tends to be snails rather than slugs. I do what @nultyphilip224 does and spread a few pellets early in the season. That was a very good post in "Problem Solving" Philip, and I hope it helps some gardeners with their plant problems.

Like you @Fran IOM I can't sit at peace in the garden lol. I am always jumping up to attend to something.

Here is a photo I took of my little Hare. It's good to know I am not the only one who hates to leave loved ornaments outdoors in the cold. He must be 20 years old now. Have a good day all.

  • @nultyphilip224 thank you for the advice on helping the Delphs to recover,i was wondering if they could be saved.

@FranIOM I know what you mean about having appointments and shopping looming,i think as you get older you want the freedom,i too hate being pulled away from the garden,or painting by something mundane! Would love to see your allotment sometime.

@Purplerain, I look forward to seeing your stoneware, hare etc.It will be lovely when the flowers are out around them.

@AnniD my house hasn't seen a D****r  for a week!! While I was away,  OH painted The kitchen as a surprise for me,also spattered the worktops, windows, flooring!  Bless!!

The tadpoles are now being fed boiled Romano lettuce!   I know......!!!! 🐸

    Fairy in position!

Rain almost stopped, but I have a bad sore throat,so being forced to keep warm and dry!!😕 🌷

    Have a good day everyone.
