@AnniD yes had the gin...one of those fancy ones from Lidl, OH and I have changed places,i used to panic about everything, now I'm laid back, and he panics about everything! Hence the Tads being fed boiled lettuce!! I thought they just got on with it in the sludge and weed, but apparently not.........must be fed! I drew the line at fish flakes though,i really want this to be wild. Lucky girl you! More Clems! I love them!
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.
@Valley Gardener, no idea where l'm going to put them though, but l'll worry about that later ! Know what you mean about the wildlife, Mr B has been spoilt by me digging up caterpillars.Thought l had ruined him for the other stuff, but no, he is quite happy for me to sit on the patio and throw pieces of suet to him. It's a wonder l get any gardening done !
Fantastic pics of the hedgehogs! @nultyphilip224 Thank you for the get well card........oh to be able to get out of a bath!!! The raspberry Gin went down well last night!
I love all the Ice cream containers........where would we be without them? They fit very well along my porch shelves. Temps here were down to 1 last night, Had a tiny bimble down the garden yesterday, wrapped up warm, and it looks like the plant in a sock have all taken. Soon the jumbled wall repair will have some interest,I've put the Aubretia in it, and pyracantha to grow up but not invade the stones.
Have a lovely day everyone.
@Valley Gardener,..your very welcome ,..its amazing how many houses here have got rid of the bath and replaced it with a shower,..i like a shower but really can relax in my bath,..oh yes getting out can be a problem,..even when i am in the best of health i have to be cautious,..it only takes one slip.
Oh yes those Ice Cream containers are so handy,..nice to know that you also make use of them,..so many things with edibles from the Supermarket can be used in the garden,..i use those plastic trays the Chicken comes in,..just the right size for most flower pots.
That's great to know your plant in sock has worked out,..i used one about the same time as you and have good results as well,..Aubretia and Pyracantha were good choices,..you will have to post a picture when they get a good foothold on your wall.
@Purplerain,..i am over the moon about the river level dropping as most of my images along the river are of that far side as are the meadows,..the river is so close i can hear the Swans and Terns from my garden,..swans flying over the house daily and Terns screeching,..Seagulls arriving on the garden shed to scoff the bread i leave out makes me feel i am near the sea,..of course its miles away.
Ah that was a good guess about your Bowles Mauve,..i have one of them and must rectify that,..meaning i should have at least two just in case.
Isn't it great to see those Hedgehogs,..especially the babies,..that was my first sighting of them,..i did suspect the female was planning a family from her appearance,..both youngsters appeared again tonight but at different times,..one has a darker face.
Lol at squealy sounds,..plus that's some weird Tulip lol.
@Fran IOM,..ah yes same kind of weather here clear sky,..browsing in the garden and just changing some containers around,..they really blend in when the plants get taller,..it helps to have some cascading down over a pot or container,..Sedum helps me as does Campanula and the like.
About your Digitalis 'Foxgloves',..a great plant for the garden,..once you have them they will always be with you,..when they have finished blooming you can leave them as they are and they will drop seeds so you will see them pop up next season,..or you can cut off the dead blooms to prevent them self seeding,..or collect the seeds yourself,..if you just cut off the dead blooms area/seed area,..you can leave the plant be and by next season you can cut off young plants from the parent plant,..it will be like a spire with many youngsters along the spire,..cut below each new plant,..dip them in rooting powder and plant them,..this year between ones that self seeded and young plants cut from the spire i got 30 plants,..its a plant that gives you several choices,..the new plants may not resemble the parent plant and there will be some nice surprises in colour.
I was given a Cornus 'Midwinter'cutting that has rooted,..its growing pretty fast just now but i can well imagine how tall and wide it can grow but a very impressive colouration,..mine is outside and has being out for weeks now,..so yours could be gradually introduced to outside with the good weather we are having,..its best in the garden than in a container of course but while deciding where to place it in the garden you can keep giving it bigger pots while its still manageable.
Hedgehog image tonight,..i slide open my back door to capture an image but don't want to scare them off by using the flash too often,..so far so good,
Good Morning all. A bit cloudy today but promises brighten up later. Don't mind as long as it doesn't rain. Was really warm yesterday out of the rather cool breeze. Managed another two hours so beginning to catch up. Was rather concerned about my Hypericum as it didn't seem to be making signs of new life but after googling I think it's a little early yet. The bees love it. It's hard to believe it came from the Pound shop as it has grown so well. @Valley Gardener Hope you are feeling better today. Must be very frustrating not to be able to do anything in the garden. You will miss your daughter. I didn't realise she was coming home with you. Thought she was taking you halfway and OH then taking over. Did she tell you about her visit to the shed?! I would love one of those old fashioned bird baths made of stone. @AnniD. Hope your clems are successful. I haven't seen any caterpillars or slugs or snails yet. My blackbird has to make do with any worms I dig up. Was worried about the laptop as I had had problems with my tv in the kitchen and eventually lost all the programmes! Thought it was going to be an ongoing thing. Sure someone could have fixed the tv but OH offered to buy me a new one so I didn't hesitate even though it took me off the allotment. Couldn't go back to the old one now. Had an email from B&Q so say I had won a £5 voucher so guess what I shall spend that on. @nultyphilip224 Thank you for all your advice. Will keep an eye on the foxgloves and could get some new plants from it. Is this the right time of year? Will give my Cornus a touch of the outside and when it gets bigger will pot it up again. Will probably be able to make a decision as to where I can put it once everything starts growing again. It would make a good cover for somewhere I didn't want to be seen till passing. Your hedgehogs know where to come for their supper. You will be able to watch the young ones grow up. Wonder when they leave the parents and go off on their own.
Have a good day and hope your weather is suitable for the garden.
@ FranIOM and those who suggested Vicks on feet!!😁 I was head to toe in it last night, applied it again at 4 am! Also woken with a cold sore! I'm a mess! I'm so annoyed that I can't go in the garden. Yes we've had a lovely time together, here and Dorset, swapped clothes and shoes, did our nails etc. The Hogs are so sweet @nultyphilip224,no you don't want to frighten them off.
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.
Afternoon all, been a busy day here. Did get on this morning but got sidetracked again! @nultyphilip224, your hedgehogs seem quite fearless. Still no sign of Hedgehog here, but l put a dish of cat biscuits out on the patio. They had gone this morning, a look on the camera showed Mouse taking them all through the night. Maybe he was taking them to his friend Hedgehog. @Valley Gardener, sorry to hear you are still suffering, hope it clears up soon and you can start gardening again. @Fran IOM and @Purplerain, l've seen you on the Secret Garden club thread ! I daren't get on the website..... Must get on, have a load of newspapers to shred before taking to the local hedgehog rescue. Hope everyone is having as good a day as possible.
Good evening all. I had a very productive day yesterday. The weather was lovely and I managed to empty the cold frame of overwintered lupins and penstemon and get them planted out. I have put the sweet peas and the alderman peas in there now. They were in the cold porch so should be fine (I hope). I took the cosmos for a day out in the garden, but they are back inside now.
@AnniD, so you caught us lol. It is only my second buy from them, but all this talk of heucheras put me in the mood so I bought some plum pudding, then I got some more campanula and something else beginning with H but forget. You are getting very wiley in your clematis purchases lol. There is always room for another, thats what I say, so keep it up.
@Valley Gardener I can't believe your OH let your daughter actually sit in the shed. That is blatant favouritism if you ask me 😀. I hope you are feeling better today. Interesting when you mentioned baths. I had the bathroom done a couple of years ago and insisted on a bath with handles. I also keep a rubber bath mat thing in it. This makes me feel safe and get in and out quite well.
@nultyphilip224 lovely to see that the hedgehogs are becoming regulars at the Philip Hotel and I hope they reward you with all their antics. You must get another Bowles Mauve. I fell out of love with them in the late Summer as they looked exhausted and sparse, but they are back with a bang looking great. They surely must run out of steam soon. When you said you couldn't grow lavender, is it because your soil is too rich? I suppose you could do some in a pot by the back door. I only grow the English lavender as they seem quite tough, and I love the smell of them.
Thats enough from me, so I hope you all put your feet up and have a relaxing evening.
