I think we need more of Whisper on your thread @nultyphilip224. This is just in answer to @Fran IOM about when to collect Hellibore seeds. I keep GW recordings, and found one on 30/3/18 where Carol Klein explains how to breed them and also when to collect seeds. She suggests end of May or beginning of June, to be sown right away.
I will try get Whisper to pose some more,..whisper is the Daughter of my first cat who was named 'Plain',..aka 'The Church Cat' as two of the Church goers were visited daily by 'Plain',..sitting on their window sill looking in,..alas she died about two years ago,..now its Whisper who does exactly the same.
Its great that you keep GW recordings,..there are some very informative videos by Carol Klein,..i remember posting all her videos from YouTube on another Forum,..i do like her programs.
The sowing of the Hellebore seeds immediately was something that stuck in my mind as its not something one would think of unless informed,..you could cast more on this in here if you have the time,..hint
Hi Phillip. My goodness you have truly inspired me. I have only joined the forum a few months ago but been so busy restoring an old garden that I have not had time to explore. Hard work and takes up all my time. Came across your thread and spent about 5 hours reading and watching your wonderful videos. I have to bow down to your knowledge & passion for plants. I used to have a garden before and was passionate too but sadly had to leave my lovely garden as my husband and I were ill and we had to move to a flat. I now have a garden again and really got the bug back bad!!! I have such a massive area to fill and cottage gardens is my style. I am going to try all your wee tips & tricks like the socks ha ha Also never been keen on roses as I worry they are too difficult. There is a yellow climber in my garden but I love your Rosa Handel so going to get one and try it. Bet I get hooked. Lots of members here have kindly given me seeds in the seed swap so fingers crossed and you have made me want to collect some myself this year and give it a go. Plants are so expensive and can't help but buy them so skint!! Sorry to hear about your eye trouble too and hope you get it sorted soon. Also we have the animal thing in common. I also have had loads of cats and dogs. I volunteered for CPL and Catflap and love all creatures. Need to go to bed now dreaming after all my reading. THANK YOU!! x
Hi moragb1,..very pleased you looked through the Thread and enjoyed the Videos,..its a very handy way for me to share all the blooms for each Month plus i can look back to each year and make changes for the better.
I envy you restoring an old garden,..its a great experience to venture on and one can plan what you want to do even though you might be away from the garden,..shaping it like a painting in your mind,..yes very back breaking work but you can see the progress it helps ease the aches.
Lol at you liking the socks idea,..only use your Husbands OLD socks or ones that shrunk so you wont get into bother.
Plants are very expensive so its a good idea not to go for plants that die after one season that way you can build up a garden from plants that self seed or take cuttings or divide that's how i built up my stock.
I hope both you and your Husband are in good health now,..just don't overdo the garden work,..you must be very happy to have a garden again,..its so enjoyable and its therapy.
So Cottage Gardens is your style,..if you spot something in my garden that appeals to you i may have seeds for same,..postage free,..let me know.
@Purplerain I agree with you that we should see more of Whisper. He looks so content just sitting there watching the telly. Thanks for your advice about the Hellebore seeds. Will keep that in mind. When I first used to watch Carol Klein I wasn't so keen but gradually got to really like her. Got up early on a Sunday morning to watch her on BBC2 and Gardeners World repeat. @moragb1 Really enjoyed reading your post. Do hope you and your husband are in good health now. You will certainly be inspired by everything that Philip does in his garden. We will all be interested in the progress of your garden. Good Luck. @nultyphilip224 Looking forward to seeing your lily bulbs in bloom. You can give yourself a pat on the back for being an inspiration to other members on the forum.
Phillip & Fran IOM thanks. Sorry I didn't say that my husband sadly died after a car crash, He had been ill and getting better then that happened. Been two years ago now and my new garden is my saviour. Gives me a reason to get up in the morning. I have the bug again and it's bad. I still have aches & pains but feels good to do something that I love and outdoors but at my age think I have lost my marbles doing all this work!!! I am learning something new every day. Just failed at trying to lay decking boards as an edging on my path. I had never used a drill before. I looked at youtube and thought it looked easy ha ha . WRONG, So a friend came round today to show me what I was doing wrong. Main reason I didn't know I needed decking screws!! Silly Billy. So hopefully get that done soon. Just hate asking and looking stupid so I waste a lot of time and I am stubborn as I want to say I did it all myself. Thanks for the offer of seeds Phillip. I will take you up on that this year. Also will pick your brains on roses. I sowed a lot of seeds from members today so will see what comes up. really enjoyed that. Thanks for all being friendly & supportive. Means a lot xx
@moragb1 I was sorry to hear about your husband. What a tragedy, and you are very brave to be doing all that you do. Your love of gardening shines through and I hope you enjoy Philips thread as much as we do. I look forward to reading your posts as the Spring and Summer progress.
@nultyphilip224 I will look at Carols recording again and take some notes soon.
@moragb1. So sorry to hear you lost your husband but so pleased you are able to carry on doing something that you love. As you say it gives you a reason to get up in the morning. I was just discussing aches and pains (!) with a friend in a text but I expect it comes to us all in time. Don't mind the aches after gardening cos at least I have achieved something and know the reason why. Like you I hate asking for help unless it is absolutely necessary. None of my family here has any interest in gardening so I don't even get any comments as to how well I have done but that doesn't bother me as long as I enjoy it all. My son who I only see once a year will be the one to comment good or otherwise. Do hope some fine weather is on the way so that we can all enjoy our gardens. Don't do too much.
@moragb1,..I am sorry to read of the sad news about your Husband and hope that bringing it up does not upset you,..i am pleased to see you are not moping round but have got stuck into your garden,..ah yes its that garden bug that drives us all into gardening and thinking gardening every day,..we are all still learning as someone else will know more about certain plants than we do as they grow them which makes GW a great source of knowledge for us all.
Such a change in the weather in the past three days,..rain each day but today we also had a snowfall just after the rain,..we didn't leave the house at all,..the WE being Cat Dog and myself lol.

She has no set place to sleep so i have several little cushions here and there,..she uses them all within a week.
The little piece cut from her ear indicates she was doctored by the Vet.
