@nultyphilip224 you have certainly had some handsome cats ! I am sorry if you've answered this question loads of times (l may even have already asked it ), but all your plants look so healthy. Do you feed them something specific according to variety, or just a general feed ?
@AnniD, Hi AnniD,..ah yes they were all beauties and never did any of them soil in the house this was all down to 'Plain',..she taught them all and was very strict with them but cared for them all.
I buy liquid fertiliser from LIDL every year and it does me for the entire season,..in fact i just used up the last of the supply from last year and discarded the bottle,..i can not remember its name,..the name is not something that would stick in ones mind,..however i also use Miracle Grow or Grow Sure,..having so many plants i find it more convenient to use a liquid fertiliser and i use it on a dry day so the plants will soak it up rather than waste it being diluted on a wet day,..also i make several mugs of tea every day and so save the tea leaves then spread them around the roses in particular,..not forgetting the other plants.
I only feed my Hydrangeas about twice in the season as more fertiliser produces big leaves and less blooms,..same for Wall Flowers as they will survive growing on top of a wall with no help.
@Purplerain How nice to have alternative activities when the weather is not good for the garden especially when you get entertained and fed into the bargain. I find Carol grows on you. I couldn't wait a year before planting out a clematis! (Maybe I'll learn). Bought one late last year and planted it out. It was so small but I am pleased to say it is showing signs of growing so hold out hopes for it. My Photinia Red Robin are all in the ground. The best one is outside the allotment on a small plot which is an area that gets neglected as I am inclined to forget about it. I think the smallest one I shall have to do something with but I am now having my doubts as to whether it is a Photinia. @nultyphilip224. There is nothing plain about "Plain". You can tell that Whisper is her daughter. Those photos are lovely. Tom Cat is a beauty and I've never known a male cat share looking after the young ones. Do you get nostalgic looking at them all? Even though I have never yet bothered with cuttings I always feel guilty after pruning and throwing the cuttings away. Do hope your rose cutting takes! Seems like things are improving with your eye problem especially if you are now able to drive. Hope it continues. @Valley Gardener. Do hope it won't be too long before you are able to drive again. How are your Hellebores getting on? What colours are they? Another day unsuitable for gardening. Rain first thing followed by a little sun and less wind so did think it could be possible until the rain came back with a vengeance. Maybe tomorrow...
I hope it wasn't me that has you thinking that it isn't a 'Photinia' ,..time will tell.
I have a Clematis 'Dorothy Walton',..it was growing up along the wall of the house and was doing very well,..then it developed mould,..i had to move it to the middle of the garden and since then its never given trouble,..some will suffer like that being on a house wall,..i remember 'Alan Titchmarsh' covering that problem on a program.
Ah yes 'Plain' and 'Whisper' have similar markings,..'Plain' was always mistaken for a small kitten as she was so small,..oh yes i always get nostalgic looking at them all and remembering their personalities,..they always came to me when sick or hurt,..my biggest surprise was 'Wild Thing' the big Tom Cat taking turns minding the kittens,..he was the only Tom i had who did that and he was originally a Wild Cat or Feral,..untouchable.
If you have room you should try one of the cuttings when next you are pruning,..you might get a rose slightly different from the parent plant,..plus i believe a rose grown from a cutting is a hardier rose that one grafted to a root of another rose,..less susceptible to disease as there is really no crown to be infected.
The final test was this morning,..eye wise,..nothing serious found but the muscle was weakened and so the double vision,..one pair of glasses with prisms for reading and another pair for driving with shade reaction and prisms as there was a special offer i saved £119.00,..so the bill was for £368.00 i should have them in about a week.
Thank you @nultyphilip224 , as it happens l am off to Lidl this very day as they have a gardening "event", so l will see what l can find Glad the eyes are getting sorted out.
@nultyphilip224 Hi Philip, It certainly wasn't you who made me doubt my plant was a Photinia. Managed another look today (but not gardening weather yet again) and I think with a little TLC and probably moving it somewhere else could help it along. I have lost the label for the Clematis I planted so I shall have to wait and see if it progresses as far as flowering this year. Don't know where half my labels disappear to. Even have a tin full of them. Maybe in the wild the female and male cats pair up and stay together and with Tom cat being feral it may have been instinct for him to share looking after the young. Don't suppose we will ever know for sure. Good news about your glasses and a saving in the cost. Are there any types of exercises a person can do to strengthen the eye muscle? One of these days I shall have to try out taking a cutting but need to tidy the whole place up first. You must have so many photos that bring back memories. Those adorable kittens. Looking at your photos today your garden must be so colourful. I have never seen ivy with berries before. Lucky for the pigeon. Keep hoping for good weather but as yet it hasn't arrived. Not quite sure what tomorrow will bring. Keep the photos coming. In the Rezzers thread today someone showed a photo of "the cat man of Aleppo". If you have any free time you can google it and there are videos to watch of him and also some women who carry out the same sort of work. I am sure you will find it fascinating if you haven't already seen it.
@Fran IOM,..glad to read it wasn't me that made you doubt lol,..the amount of times somebody said to me,..'are you sure about that',..then i became unsure,..like Campanula,..i was given some years ago and was told it was something else,..Lobelia i think,..never thought anything more about it until someone said its Campanula not Lobelia,..how i lived with that mistake for so long is beyond me.
Lol at your labels disappearing,..i am always cutting my fish food cans into strips for labels,..the writing used to wash off until i got a proper permanent marker,..now i have to discard labels each season.
Interesting thought about exercising the eye muscles,..i must look it up on the internet,..there must be something in that line that would help rather than make things worse,..i am looking forward to the new glasses,..it will be a new look,..the 'Clarke Kent look',..lol.
Ah yes i have photographs going back to 1945 lol,..sadly those are in Black and White,..in recent years say from 2000 i keep clicking away,..some are very hard to view again,..those are of the pets,..both cats and dogs,..its heartbreaking but of late i find its not so bad because they were happy times with all of them.
I will check out '' the Cat Man of Allepo '',..i have a friend in Oregon,..America,..i call her the Catwoman as cats are like magnets towards her,.. strays keep arriving at her home and they stay.
Yep i agree the weather is not good for gardening,..very cold here today especially down along the river,..scenic but one needs wrapping up.
@nultyphilip224. The grass is so green on yesterdays photos but I can almost feel the cold when I look at them. It is not so cold here the last few days, but my walk on Wednesday was rained off eventually. I never notice where we are (too busy talking) but eventually I realised we had doubled back towards the cafe. The rain was torrrential but it's only ice that bothers me.
I think I can explain the missing labels @Fran IOM It's magpies! I have watched them pulling them up and often find labels in strange places. I did use a black permanent marker on mine but it obviously wasn't permanent, as the writing has all gone.
I laughed at your Clark Kent glasses Philip. Let's hope they give you Superman powers, but more important, you can go about your business as usual.
Got the cosmos done, Cranberry and Antiquity and will get some scabious started. I can't believe the colour in your garden already. It is a magical place for sure.
I've given up with permanent markers on my plant labels. It's so frustrating when your carefully-labelled seed tray becomes anonymous, and you have to guess what you've sown... so now I use pencil, which definitely doesn't wash off, or fade.
So pleased your eyes are getting sorted, Philip. Hopefully Foxy Molly will still recognise you in the new Clark Kent specs! You'd think eye muscle exercises ought to be possible... good luck with finding some.
Gorgeous Hellebore photos again! Thanks for the inspiration.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Hi Fran thanks for that info on the 'Cat Man Of Allepo',..i found not just the photo of him but the videos,..wow he really went all out to rescue feed and get medication for 18 cats he rescued,..as he said there were 22 alas he didn't find them then but touch wood,..imagine he smuggled them in plastic bags to the present refuge.

Good luck at Lidl,..i hope they have the Fertiliser on sale.
Spotted a nice Daffodil in bloom today,..i nearly missed it as it was hidden,.. almost under a Foxglove.
Latest image on the Hellebore.
A nice yellow.
