Re building a wall today during some gardening,..i do this every so often when i manage to come across some flat stones.

    Right side of the wall.

    Left side of the wall.

Foxy Molly is standing where there is a gap in the wall to walk through,..the wall is built across the corner of the end of the garden.

I leave the odd gap between stones so i can stick Sedum/Ferns/Campanula in the gaps,..using an old sock full of soil to stick the plants in.

Phlox 'Windsor',..coming along very well just now,..this is my third year with this and i have already taken about 12 cuttings which seem to have taken,..the bloom below from last year.

Rose ( Rosa 'Reine des Violettes' ) planted in a big container has a beautiful bloom and the bush is almost thorn less,..the bush tends to be leggy which some people do not like but it makes up for this by allowing its branches to droop down like a Willow Tree,..to compensate for the gap which still remains between the branches and the container i have planted a yellow rose bush,..hoping it works,..time will tell.

It's hard to believe that eye specialists don't take into consideration driving and eye problems @nultyphilip224. I take it you are not going?

Interesting comment about children not being interested in gardening. I find the same, but I think the grandchildren are curious as long as it's something to eat, especially strawberries. I had a request to grow peas this year, so I bought Climbing Alderman seeds. I will do them in big pots, but having never done them before, I'm not sure. Any tips would be good.

That stone wall looks good and it's nice to see Foxy Molly enjoying herself. The weather has been warm, but I am not going to trust it just yet.

  • @philip nulty,  Oh my goodness, that reminds me of our wall! I'm always piling on rocks, but I do love rocks! Are you actually having an eye op? Those drops are awful,it feels as if your eye is paralysed!
Foxy Molly is being helpful I see!
    Lovely pics too.
@Purplerain. I too didn't have a phone with camera, but my daughter said I must update my old Kindle, actually I remember you saying something too Philip....😊
I still can't get my head round the newfangled phone/computers!
I managed a bit of weeding today, then sat on the bench enjoying the sun with my cats!
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.
  • I really hope your eye soon improves, @nultyphilip224, and you can drive again... though I have a friend who is blind in one eye but still able to drive.  I guess you might be able to adjust to the eye patch, in time?  It's very odd not having 3D vision though.

A great idea to put old socks to use as soil containers in a wall!  I might borrow that idea... my hubby had a habit of leaving one sock behind when he went abroad (he used to teach English as a foreign language in Russia), so we have a small collection of odd socks...   :)
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

Nope,..not going lol,..i sounded adamant when speaking to the Optician and her only reply was,.. you have to go to get into the Social Welfare System,..i didn't argue as the System will pay something like £38 towards the cost of reading glasses and distance glasses,..the form filling and visiting the Social Welfare Offices and the queue is not worth it,..i would rather pay the full amount and get things done quickly.

I know that many children are interested in gardening,..sadly not mine,..also many gardeners i know,..how i took such an interest is beyond me,..i would finish school and run home,..have a quick snack,..head into the National Botanical Gardens,..find out where my Dad was working and give him a hand,..perhaps it was just listening to adults talking about gardening and including me in the conversation that made me feel good,..one thing they all stressed was NEVER be critical about another gardeners garden,..they might be doing things in a different way to you but getting the same or better results,..that's always stuck in my mind.

Growing Peas,..well done you,..you can sow them in early Spring or late Summer,..approx half a finger deep and one finger apart,..sow in a sunny open location,..i always soaked the peas overnight in cold water the day before sowing,..i planted mine in rows with canes for supports and twine between the canes,..no problem with you sowing in big pots at all.

Thank you,..i feel the eye is improving or perhaps i am just adjusting to it,..i have an idea to enable me to drive while having this eye problem,..started working on the idea today with practice it can be done,..i will let you know in a few days if its a success,..time will tell,..i tend to heal quickly from cuts bruises and pulled muscles,..lets hope this will be the same,..i surely miss the car.

Lol about your Hubby leaving one sock behind when he went abroad,..now you found a good use for the single sock pile  :),..the other thing one can do is spread Yogurt on the stones on the wall then place Sedum or Campanula on top.

  • Having to resort to walking everywhere i spent most of the day slogging here and there which took up most of the day,..it was almost dark when i finally arrived home to check the garden.

I purchased two rolls of Coconut Fibre,..during the day it blends in with plants and covers lots of ugly things,..like in the image below there is a beer crate and on top of it is a 40 cm wide x 40 deep container which houses a Hosta,..it should look good when the Hosta foliage cascades over the sides.

Erysimum Linifolia Varigatum 'Variegated Wallflower',..in bloom today.

@nultyphilip224. Taking some time out to catch up before I have to go out. Sorry to hear you have had no positive results regarding your eye but you seem to be resigned to the fact that you won't be going to another specialist and it could rectify itself in time. Here's hoping. Like @Liriodendron mentioned I had a boss in one job who was blind in one eye and had no problem driving or anything else for that matter. You would never have known.

Love your drystone wall and what a clever idea with the socks. I have one wall which my son built for me out of roof tiles at the top of the allotment which has little holes here and there in which I have planted ivy. The whole allotment has been designed with roofing tiles (SIL a roofer so old tiles for free) which is difficult to explain and would need photos! I am very clumsy with these new phones so stick with the old.
Managed a couple of hours gardening yesterday and finished weeding the "rose bed".
That's what I call it anyway. Have planted roses in one area some of which are David Austin and the others from the pound shop so it will be interesting to see which fare the best. I have these ideas in mind but will have to wait to see if they come to fruition. Think today is going to be another gardening day with regard to the weather but after that I think we are back to winter. We must count ourselves lucky to have had this good spell.
Do like Foxy Molly's white socks. Bet they get rather dirty when she follows you around the garden.
@Valley Gardener  Knowing you love your cats - my own cat is a house cat so can't be on the allotment with me but a neighbour's cat who thought she owned the place and probably went there every day before it became mine was left behind when the people had to move out of the house. I befriended her and she gradually got used to me. I didn't know if she had been given to someone else and used to feed her but when the winter came I didn't see her for months and used to worry as to how she was coping.
Yesterday I was so pleased as she was waiting for me in the allotment and seemed well fed and clean. She followed me around and sat and watched me and then eventually wandered off. I feel as though there must be someone who is looking after her which was a relief.

@nultyphilip224 Thanks for the tip! I'll see what he's got for me.

Good luck with your eye, I hope it improves soon.
  • @Fran IOM,..yourself and @Liriodendron,..give me great hope with seeing with one eye as you both know someone in the same situation,..hoping it won't come to that in my case but considering every situation as its early days,..i was looking at TV with great difficulty despite wearing the patch so i removed the patch,..rested my elbow on the chair arm and with my head resting on my hand discovered i could see clearly,..the explanation was simple,..having my head at an angle where my left eye was lower than my right and its the left eye that viewing at a lower level,..they were now at an equal level,..so i have practised this as often as possible when out walking,..it just means tilting my head about four inches,..it doesn't solve the problem but it helps until i can get something done.

I purchased a second phone last week,..not an Android one and not a flat one,..it only cost £50,..while it can be used as a torch or camera that's not the reason for the purchase,..i tend to forget where i left my Android phone,.. it being flat its often hidden under some paperwork,..so the second phone is to call the Android phone so i can hear where it is lol,..to each his own  :):)

Your rose garden sounds interesting with the mix of rose bushes,..some pound shop rose bushes are well worth buying as i know a few people who were well pleased when the blooms appeared,..actually some David Austin Roses are not really genuine David Austin grown but just roses that are sold by David Austin,..i think one of mine is in that category,..it was given to me as a gift and on posting it in another Forum i was told it was only sold by David Austin,..that's Rose ( Rosa 'Korresia' ),..if my memory is correct.

Another very warm day and more gardening done,..i only have about two more jobs to do then i can sit back for a spell and invent something more to do.

Trying to imagine your garden and the wall of tiles,..that must look good,..if you manage to get an image you could always email it to me and i will post it for you,..same applies to anyone else not camera familiar,..i post the image when arranged so you can post under the image with comments.

Nice story about the allotment cat,..its sad when people leave cats behind when they move and its nice that she befriended you,..someone else who is kinds to cats is probably feeding her,..one would love to know her entire story.

My cat was calling me when i was in the garden today,..it took me awhile before i looked up on the roof and there was 'Whisper'.
