That's gorgeous! I must say I was tempted by a Cherry tree yesterday, but didn't really want to deviate from something evergreen. The birds are so funny, they appeared gradually after I came inside, not perching on the new addition, but having a jolly good look!! I bought tiny weeny geraniums to pot up,just a dozen, enough for me. When I had a greenhouse I supplied my Dad and neighbours, but no Dad now,and the neighbours don't garden!!! I got them last year in bright red, this time pink!
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.
@Philip Nulty @Fran IOM@Purplerain. Here's my new eucalyptus gunnii, about 6' just over. Rescue Rose,in her new place by the wall, still sprouting madly! And my rustic rail!!
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.
@nultyphilip224 glad to see you back and I hope the blurry vision has gone for now. Do you think you will be able to get back to driving? I don't drive far but I would be lost without my little car for shopping etc. I think you might be right about the fuchsia genii although mine has never grown taller than one and a half feet. I have put the cuttings out to play today but will bring them in tonight. Pic added, but the cuttings look darker than they are.
@Fran IOM it would be nice to see a photo of your multi coloured fuchsia and your hellibore. I hope it does well for you.
@Valley Gardener i love your rustic hand rail, it's very attractive. I had to look up your new tree and I like the greyish leaves. That rose looks very happy.
@Purplerain Wow! Those Fuchsias look ready to go! Lovely pink Hellebores,i especially like the paler one! Saw some in the GC yesterday, £16.95 a pot, lovely pink, but I couldn't justify it, as we're having to replace old plastic inherited sheds, with nice new wooden one.
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.
@Valley Gardener,..that rescued rose is showing lots of life,..even so i would go for taking a cutting this year seeing you have young growth,..its the woody sections below the new growth that might fail you,..its great satisfaction to have rescued that rose.
Your Eucalyptus 'gunnaii',..is taller than i imagined,..well done getting it and i can see that distinctive coloured leaf,..it would show up more so on a duller day,..good purchase there.
Ah the rustic rail,..i bet you are feeling safer being able to hold on to it,..don't get over confident,..i mean no gymnastics as it reminds me of just that,..so be safe
Gosh i am shocked at the price of Hellebores,..£16.95 a pot.
@Purplerain,..getting back to driving is most on my mind as like you i would be lost without a car,..i will persevere and get rid of the double vision,..its still there,..wearing a patch stops the double vision but then looking with one eye is very difficult,..i am confident it will return to normal,..thinking positive tends to work with me
That's a beautiful Hellebore,..watch out for seeds as it would be worth trying them.
Very healthy looking Fuchsias,..they will benefit getting out to play lol,..i just love to see gardeners making good use of cuttings and swapping seeds,..well done.
My Dad was in an age when nearly all Cottage Gardeners increased their plant stock from cuttings and seed swapping,..they felt guilty if they purchased anything other than fencing and pots,..i do likewise with great joy,..alas my two Sons have no real interest in anything i do,..Gardening or fishing nor pets,..makes one think.
Managed to get five hours non stop gardening today,..of course its difficult to remember everything worked on as i was flitting from one thing to another,..moved all but one Digitalis and Dark mullein,.. from where they grew from self seeding to permanent locations.
Moved two big pots of Hydrangeas from one end of the garden to the other end,..moved a big Pieris japonica 'mountain fire' from the back garden to the front of the house to hide my Wheelie Bin.
These Arum Lily were at the opposite end of the garden.
I purchased a roll of Chicken Wire back in 2000 and am still making use of it,.. though cut in sections to enable me to cover pots where all my Lily bulbs are otherwise the Blackbirds would destroy they scraping for worms,..masses of Lily shoots appearing,..just 3 of the several pots below.
@nultyphilip224 It was rather remiss of the medical centre not to warn you of the after effects of the eye drops. They usually advise not to drive and have someone with you. I had them once and wouldn't have managed on my own. Did you get any answers? At least you got to take a photo of the beautiful cherry tree. Today's weather is so much better so will be gardening this afternoon. I don't have a camera or an up to date phone! Very much a "stick in the mud". The only way I could get a photo on the forum is to get my daughter to take the photo on her phone and email it to me. Have managed it here once before. How lovely to get five hours gardening in. I usually manage two or three if I am lucky. Being on the allotment I don't get so many interruptions as I would if I were in the garden. No one else in the family has the slightest interest in gardening apart from my son but he lives abroad. He landscaped the allotment for me when he spent some time at home. Usually see him about once a year. Hope Foxy Molly is keeping well. Does she follow you around the garden? Keep thinking positive.
@Valley Gardener. If I click on your first photo it enlarges it and I can see everything so clearly. Well done. Should look even better come the summer. You said you were tempted by the cherry tree, does that mean you actually succumbed and now have one? Love your paving stones.
@Purplerain As I mentioned above I don't have camera or phone to take photos but when my fuchsia has regained all its leaves and flowers come summer I shall certainly get my daughter to take a photo. My hellebore isn't a patch on yours regarding colour but maybe B&Q will get some more in. It's a start. Cost me £8. Dread going there as you have to take a trolley and I always come out with more than I intended. Your fuchsia cuttings look very healthy.
Here's hoping I achieve something this afternoon. Will be mostly weeding...
@nultyphilip224 Hi Philip. I'm another lurker who enjoys reading your posts (and those of your dedicated followers ). I have a quick question for you: are you using chain link fencing for trellising? If you are, how have you attached it to the concrete wall? My father in law should have some spare that I could use instead of half broken wooden trellises from Woodies.
@emerb,..thank you for the lurking i always appreciate people looking in even if they don't post as the viewed numbers let me know i am looked at.
Yes i use chain link fencing on walls as its ideal for the like of Clematis to get a grip on,..chain link fencing will last a lot longer than wood,..i use a drill to make a hole then insert a plug before adding a screw,..once the screw is held i wrap some wire around the screw and on to the fencing,.. sometimes if in a hurry its easier to just hammer a nail into the wall,..a Masonry Nail of course.
I hope you are in luck and that your Father in law has lots of chain link for you.
@Fran IOM,..hi Fran,..yes i was surprised that nobody informed me about how those drops make eyesight blurred,..luckily i had this experience some years back and it was worse then,..i mentioned it to the Specialist and he replied that its not so bad the second time,..could have fooled me,..he asked me was i driving home??,..with double vision i replied,..no way,.. i walked here.
I was asked by the Optician to let her know how i fared out with the Specialist,..i told her he is forwarding me on to another Specialist in the next County,..for a Syringe and Probe and that he suggested Prisms,..however i was not going,..i was given instructions on how to drive there?,..seems like double vision to them does not raise an alarm for driving,..anyway the fee for the private appointment is £50,..if Prisms are required its £20 each,..the money i don't mind its the lack of not connecting the dots,..double vision/driving to the next County,..i will work something else out myself.
Delighted to read that your weather is improving,..gardening gardening happy days lol,..its great here today sunny and warm and its not yet Spring,..even Foxy Molly enjoyed herself with two walks this morning.
You might not have a camera or up to date phone,..sounds sad,..however you might well be better off as the up to date phone can drive one to despair,..cheaper to run of course with no landline fee but unpredictable things.
Oh yes Foxy Molly follows me around the garden,..gets in the way at times but i forgive that as she is good company,..she does stick her head in to some images lol and when i load images later i can be sure she will be in there someplace.
