My sympathy @GWRS I've been digging over my old strawberry patch and my problem is ground elder roots. Just as pernicious and tricky as bindweed. Horrid stuff.
Yes, I was actually able to get out late morning. Dug up a Lord Bute pelargonium, cut off the tops and stuck it in the shed to dry it off a bit. Likewise unpotted 6 small dead begonias and replaced these with some very pretty yellow and blue pansies for the kitchen windowsill so I've something cheerful to look at. I'd wanted violas but GC had only these pansies left. Did manage to pick up two small pots of the green/gold leaved Euonymus fortunii for £1 each on the reduced table. Bubblewrapped an ailing box ball pot and gave it some slow release fertiliser pellets to see if that helps - tried everything else but most leaves still bronzy looking so think it's starved. Just had time to dash indoors when it started raining heavily.
No actual gardening but did check my pots, pond and had a walk about. Daffodils in pots peeping through! Some of the pelargoniums are still going strong in their protected place on the back porch.
Lizzie , I had 2 box plants in pots and Monty had some as well both not looking to good and he said they where “ starving “ , so put them into the ground at allotment and they have picked up well , did feed them but obviously not enough , good luck with yours 🌲
Far too windy to do any real gardening, so I picked up five armfuls of twigs and other wooded debris that was scattered over the lawns. Mostly pine and twisted willow that had blown down in the gale - force 9 getting up to 10 later on.
Did get to allotment this morning, and was able to complete the laying of the paving for the scented garden seating area, and started to lay the other pathways until rain stopped play.

I popped up the lotment this morn also, took a few bags of topsoil from my garden.
Did some lamium administration today, am trying to create 4 new Pictums, I feel like any snapped off bit should just re-root put in soil, but I won't bother them until I see new growth. Decided I want lamium album under a shrub rose I've ordered that hasn't arrived yet. How come it's in every bed but when I want a sprig there's none to be found? Found one definite and one possible and planted them in place.
Weeded a couchy area under the crab apple. I'd been ignoring it as it was full of lunaria youngsters and some early daffs have emerged and didn't want to wreck them. Got it done anyway and moved a few lunaria elsewhere. Replanted with some Veronica gentianoides.
Ripped up a woodruffy and unimaginative mess at the shady pond edge. Jammed the woodruff mat into the crevices of some stumps, I don't know if it will live like that, we'll see. Added some lamium pink pewter to grow around a new rose Yvonne Rabier and some hart tongue ferns.
Ordered some bulbs, mostly in the sale but also some nice looking daffs for pots. Noticed a persicaria I haven't seen before 🤔 Trying not to order it.
My marsh marigolds are sprouting already, can't wait to see my spring garden again🙂

I think it might be okay. We had an old cherry tree trunk dead as a door nail with woodruff surrounding it which did grow up and into the trunk at the base and worked its way up. I was surprised at how well those little roots clung on and got into the wood.
I opened and closed the blow away today. Frustrated I can't do more, everything is so soggy at the moment.
Spread the remnants of a bag of soil conditioner around and bagged up some topsoil for the allotment. Picking bulbs out as I go, might pot up for now while I decide what to do.
Wondering whether to get rid of my hydrangeas and replace with something more exciting like a persicaria and a interesting eryngium I haven't got. I might even have space for a few camassia...🤔
