A few hours in the garden this afternoon just pottering, with the sun and drying breeze today hope to get to the allotment tomorrow and to get some rotavating done.

Only more leaf picking up. The big maples are nearly all bare, but the birch trees still have lots...….....and lots, they are 40 ft high! What really gets me are the thousands (or millions) of tiny black seeds that come down from the birches at the same time. They are impossible to sweep off the paving and keep being trod into the house.
A good five hours at the allotment yesterday mostly digging and rotavating and will be the same today.
I have to use a mattock in places as the ground is so hard and full of lumps of concrete I have to be sure they are removed before going over with the rotavator I'm sure the previous owner just use to bury all his old rubbish rather than take it to the dump.
Yesterday I found an old bath towel, loads of concrete, off cuts of plastic drain pipe, plastic shopping bags, drinks cans among other items

Blimey, HH, it sounds like an episode of Time Team. You'll have Tony Robinson and co there next. Finished the tidying, there is some right at the back of the bed, but it's really awkward to get to, so l thought b*gger it, and left it for now. The green bin is nearly full, so time for a cup of tea.
Took a deep breath and pruned my magnolia, some of the lower branches which were making the shrub/tree look lopsided and overhung the other plants. I found snowdrops already coming through - good job I didn't tread on them. My new rose a HT "Silver Jubilee" arrived so I quickly gave it a good soak, whilst mixing leafmould with manure and digging a large hole for it. Planted it with Rootgrow so hopefully it will look good next year, I just hope I've chosen the right colour rose for the space.
Nobody else gardening today? I bubblewrapped my camelia pot and topped it up with leafmould, ditto my phormium and lily pots. Removed dead leaves from bearded irises and pruned a couple more roses. Lastly did yet more leaf clearing - will it never end? More to do tomorrow.
Enjoy your stay with relatives GWRS. I didn't do very much today, apart from asking for help from OH to water and we managed to (hopefully) fix a problem with the pond leaking water from the side of the stream - we were having to top up the pond level every second day - so we are hoping that this remedial work will stem the flow.
Lifted Dahlia, canna, both with full leaves, planted tulips, crocus, daff, allium and cut lawn on highest setting (the lawn has kept growing) yesterday. Today’s plan is to prune roses, use it for cuttings, cut front lawn, plant roses taken from cuttings last year and worry about finding place for plants bought early this year (completely unnecessary on a whim).
