  • Did a bit more on the Plots, including some hoeing, I seem to have a forest of chickweed growing in some places. It has been so mild I could see flower forming so I thought I'd better deal with it before it seeds.

Chickweed is going crazy at the moment, I agree!
Just been out to raise some pots on bits of tile, and have installed some galvanised lawn edging along one of my beds. Only two to go and then the whole garden is done! Hoping it'll keep couch grass from crawling everywhere (plus the general lawn encroachment that seems to be a constant in my garden).

Now drinking tea and watching to see if the birds find the food I've put out.
  • I made a hasty log pile (another one) behind the tall echiums, better late than never, did more planning for the tree/hedge boundary at the bottom of our field - now looking up Hazel trees and pyracantha hedge.  I also tried to dig out some nuisance Spanish bluebells - I wasn't very successful in finding the bulbs - mostly just the leaves came out in my hand.

I had a busy day today.
I planted 12 bare root roses that I got from Rozenlottum, gave a new border another digging over (I've got heavy clay soil), planted sweet peas and potted on some plugs that I got from J Parkers a month or so ago.
  • Wow, that is a busy day gutties, I bet it was satisfying though  :)

The snow has now melted so I did some rose admin too. Moved Rhapsody in Blue from the front garden to the triangle bed and moved Alba Maxima from the sunny border to the front garden. I'm hoping it will be tough enough to live near a big cotoneaster shrub. Took ages to dig it up and I still had to cut the roots  :/

Moved some penstemons to the space where Alba Max had been.

Had a nice stroll around looking for bulbs and new growth. Noticed buds on clem alpina which I hacked back last year to mend the fence, also on clem alpina Frankie, a newish purchase that I thought had died, so good news, alpines are my favourite kind of clem. However, I did find lots of flowers on clem Advent Bells, which I've never noticed flowering before. It lives in the aforementioned cotoneaster but in hindsight it would look more effective in a deciduous shrub.

Today I sowed hot peppers: purple and orange jalapeno and chocolate habanero. Also I ordered few more seeds from UK, flowers and vegetables. Last sunday I also sowed cotton seeds and planted my christmas tree.

  • Got distracted from other stuff and just did a slug hunt in the garden; found what I think is a Angle Shades moth catepillar munching away on one of my many Centaurea montanas. Unlike the slugs and the snails, it got a reprieve.

I got hopped up warm and dandered around my estate.  Then I did it a couple more times as it’s only about 13 paces both ways!!

Planning a total rescape starting now and probably evolving over the coming months.  So my gardening was pulling a few weeds, moving a climber in its pot.  Then I paced out my garden and made a plan.  Next on the agenda is to dig up some turf, mark out some borders, dig a water feature pond/bog area and enrich the borders with something or other!

    All advices welcome!
