Lovely fine day here, so OH raked up 6 bags of leaves, which we added water, tied and pierced the bags. I picked up more pine cones, fed the birds and washed some pots and seed trays. Temp. got up to 15 degrees in the conservatory so opened doors and windows for a few hours.
Sunny and a tad warmer by 12, so I emptied what was left of the leafmould from a big builders bag and mulched the soft fruit, some ferns and roses and my slightly tender Carpenteria. I never know whether to mulch or not as I have so many spring bulbs around other plants, especially the tiny squills.
I planted the last 3 tete a tete narcissus in the bed in front of our house and one bright red flowering cyclamen. I have a few more cyclamen to plant as and when the antirrhinums finish flowering they will be replaced for a colourful winter display.
Yesterday I covered the half of the long border that I'd already cleaned up with manure from the summer paddock heap. Today I've been clearing the other half. Long border is 30m x 2m.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
I packed away the dahlias that are now dry after lifting them last weekend. I also lowered the first tier branches of my espalier apple tree and tied them in horizontally.
