A day off today as we were entertaining - but I did have to water the recently sown wild flower area this evening as although the weather has been dull today we have still had no rain for a good week or two.
Weeding the front garden (75% done), moved daffs into groups, into pots went poppy seedlings and gladioli bulbs, three gladioli patches in, a sweet william, carefully dug out some crawling ivy from the neighbour.
In the back, bedded in poppy seedlings, and in the raised bed some sweet Williams my daughter wanted, moved pots of daffs to the back of the garden also a sweet william.
Last weekend, dug three new beds and had my son help put in gladioli bulbs and cover with 375l of compost. He also helped put in some dahlia tubers but he’s bailed on helping me dig holes this evening
Also bought some jute rope to get a swing up and running, solar powered bulbs for my last legs tree and bought a sneaky Fuggles hop plant and buried it at the back.
Dug out quite a big viburnum today as it was past its best and hogging quite a nice sunny spot. Planted a few perenials and did a bit of weeding. Went quite cold this afternoon so had a lazy afternoon.
Tree surgeons came today to thin out some densely growing tree branches - neighbour said they were causing too much shade. T.S also ringed a dead and fallen tree trunk for us to use as firewood. Plenty of shredding of twigs to be done by us.
Yesterday, despite gloves I incurred a huge blister on my palm (hand) 😁. Busy digging out rubbish that had accumulated underneath the now gone, decking area! It was here when we arrived, but a structure I would never recommend! I now have piles of Ivy,stone, coal and clinkered coal (coke ??) Can't wait to get some plants in as the soil there has been unused for over 25 years!
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.
I made an early start today, have soaked some ranunculus bulbs/corms/things yesterday but then got home too late to plant: up at 6.30 to plant them out before work! I know it's late for them, but hoping it's not too late. Gardening before breakfast is a splendid plan that I can heartily recommend. Might make a habit of it.
Yesterday and today hubby and I have cleared a weedy unused patch at the side of our house, and I've just sewn a load of meadow seeds from Scotia Seeds in there for some (hopefully) low maintenance pollinator territory!

I sowed some sunflower seeds two days ago and they've germinated already
