Visited Hidcote this morning and came back inspired to get out in the garden (helped by some much needed sunshine). Dug out a salvia "Royal Bumble" that wasn't dead but had just about flowered itself to death over the last 6 years. Planted 3 salvias of various colours that came from cuttings. All seedlings looking okay, but at least 3 weeks behind.

At last a full day on Allotments with workable soil. Finished the annual ritual move of the  Brassica cage. Put supports up for broad beans & peas & at LONG LAST sowed parsnip seed - never been this late before. Also sowed Radish Beetroot & carrot. First direct sowing since the broad beans & early peas which are still to show themselves. Thank goodness for root trainer raised ones to give me a head start.

Finished tidying and pruning a small border in the front today. My other area in the front garden is (was) just a small patch of grass with two Holly trees, but I have let this area ‘go wild’ and April/May is the best season for it I think as the Primroses have spread beautifully.

Look away now if you like neat and tidy lawns!

I watered the tulips in pots, did some weeding, potted on some runner beans that are reaching for the sky (the clue's in the name "Enorma" I think!).OH is still creating his raised veg beds with Terram fabric underneath to keep the tree roots out but it's a big job, so I'm sowing the vegetable seeds now so they can go straight in when the job's finished - hopefully next week. Running out of room in the house so the lettuce and Swiss Chard trays are sitting in the bath! Not sure how I'm going to manage that with the grandchildren arriving for the weekend.

Weeded out bindweed, couch grass, and horsetail from behind the cane fruit.. will need to remulch back there soon.  Strimmed and mowed the front garden.. bagged the grass clippings and used them to mulch around my strawberries.  I ended up putting the sprinklers on this evening, as everything is so dry already.  There was a bit of storm and lightening over the mountains, but none made it down this direction.

Planted centaurea "Jordy", viola "Freckles" and geum "Koi". Was interrupted by neighbour asking if she could take some photos of tulips in our front garden, which involved her lying on the lawn to get various angles. Turns out she makes greetings cards! She was very complimentary, which was nice.

Lovely day today, been busy planting up some hanging baskets, got a really good deal yesterday with some violas and pansies. They will do until my own plants are big enough to plant out. Then I stopped to smell the lilac and the wisteria, and to take some pictures to always remember.

Went mad in Homebase on bedding plants in case I don't have enough! Back home I planted a Cephalaria (Giant Scabious) I'd been given - which might be mistake as I understand it can get to 6ft and sundry other plants I have been nurturing. I also dug up and replanted a Hydrangea "Annabelle" which was in the wrong place.
