Planted out & staked up 3 sunflowers just outside our front door, should interest the local bees when flowering. Tidied up around pond and potted up 4 clematis plug plants into their 4th and final pots - all had good systems on them.
Continued weeding a long raised bed that we put next to the access path into our garden (we're mid terrace and have to go round the end-of-terrace garden to get into ours). Laid some cardboard as mulch over the weeded area. Carted everything that needs hardening off out of the GH onto the path where they live during the day (OH has promised my coldframe will be finished by the end of the weekend). Sowed some Kelvedon Wonder peas and put up supports. Picked up and put into compost all the stuff I dragged out of the pond weeks ago and had left on the side. Planted out a dozen or so cosmos seedlings in raised beds on the patio. Potted on some cacti that I don't like but a friend gave them to me... Pulled about three plastic trugs worth of grass out of the brick path through my flower garden. Saw a broken branch on my new amelanchier and felt guilty about planting anything in such an exposed garden. Dug up a Gloire de Dijon rose that has been in the wrong place for umpteem years, heeled it in the veg patch as having dug it up I realised I had no manure or compost to replant it where I'm planning to put it. Carted all the seedlings back into the gh for the night. Retired.
Love the seed packet bunting - wonder if they've been laminated?
Next door neighbour brought his 2 visitors to see our garden - he had mentioned he might do this, but I didn't expect them at 9am! Fortunately things were fairly tidy and they were entertained by the robins & blackbirds, and made complimentary noises. As soon as they'd gone I planted a couple of salvias, emptied out some pots of crocosmias that hadn't made it, watered everything in the greenhouse and did some deadheading. Have come into make a cup of tea & catch up with what's happening on the forum before going out to wash a load of pots & lables.
Prepared more hydrangeas & buddeliea to sell. Tried to avoid the swarming mosquitoes over our pond area and noticed that our almond tree has died - only planted it 5 or 6 years ago - it had peach leaf wilt two years running - perhaps that was the cause.
Hubby has been battling on with paving the terrace, and I've been supplying the cold drinks at regular intervals. Planted a climbing Hydrangea against the wall, topped up the bird table with the soaked dried mealworms, they seem to be favourite at the moment, and being the general gofer! We heard the cuckoo thisafternoon, the first time in over eight years! A very pleasant day spent outside in the sun.😁
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.
Potted on dozens of tomatoes. Forgot I'd sown San Marzano when out buying plants.....
Potted on all the sweetcorn plus courgettes, squashes, a melon, a cucamelon and a baby tree I've sown with "?" on its label. When it's big enough I shall post pics to see who can ID it. Watered all the other seed trays in the polyT and it looks as tho more are finally popping.
Timer on now to sprinkle all the pots while I go and trundle round on the mower. Good for all round tanning. OH is being noisy with his strimmer so I may as well join him and then the neighbours can have peace tomorrow.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.
"The price good men (and women) pay for indifference to public affairs is to be ruled by evil men (and women)."
Watered everything out the back (takes a good hour or more, must reduce pots as they spend far too long in them without a planned spot), mulched the perennials in the beds, weeded and noticed the solitary bees have used the bee hotels sealing the holes with mud which is now dry clay, so hoping the young ones can find their way out. I guess I shouldn't intervene.
