  • At last finished digging over the old wild flower bed, removing as much of the bindweed root as possible, the next step is to rake the soil over to flatten the area, then in April sow the wild flower/grass seed.  What's the betting we will find fresh bindweed growing here too - and the neighbour's cat will no doubt think this is his freshly prepared loo!

I also chucked Fish, Blood and Bone around most of my nicer plants - as recommended in G.W. mag last month.  I am hoping for an amazing difference in their performance this year - .!!!

GD , you can’t be a bit of BF & Bone 🦴, use it my self
I was told with bindweed in beds grow it up a cane , not to effect the other plants then put weedkiller on it , does work
Wild flower bed sounds nice 🥀

We had some pretty windy weather last night, which wrecked one of my miscanthus plants. As storm Erik is predicted tomorrow, thought l may as well cut it back. Left the other 2 for later, after Erik. I was a bit worried there would be ladybirds etc hiding, but didn't come across any.

One of our fence posts has wobbled due to the strong winds last night, it's only held up by the wires holding the blackberry bush in front of it, so have propped it up with old bits of wood for the time being. What's the betting the whole lot comes down when OH is away tomorrow?  On a brighter note, my Tete-n-Tete daffodils have started blooming in the cold greenhouse, together with crocuses on the rough bank and dwarf iris in the rockery.

Have had lots of fence post at allotment broken in wind , repaired 6 , 2 more to go
When replaced fence between us and next door had concrete posts & lentils used

Pleased to say fence at bottom and other side is Hawthorn , much nicer and full of Bird ,
just hard work keep cutting it

  • That makes sense re: bind weed and cane, thanks for the tip GWRS.  We have been promised some wild perennial seed to sow in the Spring from a good friend who specializes in doing what is best to encourage nature into our gardens. A few heavy showers today, so mostly breaking up rotten scaffolding boards that surrounded the raised bed - some of the rotten boards even had bindweed roots within them!

Have been busy over the last fw days.  Borders tidied, roses pruned, lawns edged.  Crocus, hellebores and snowdrops blooming.  Popped to Ashwoods and they have cut their lawns.

I think they have an open day this weekend @Yviestevie. OH has cut the front lawn for second or possibly third time since Christmas. Back lawn needed the flymo, the sparrows needed periscopes to see where they were going!
  • I know what you mean GD. I dug out an old compost heap today and there were “nests” of it in the bottom under the moped membrane!

Yes, John's garden is open on Saturday, would like to go but I'm on Nanna duty looking after Jonah and Garbriel.
