  • I hacked my unwanted hydrangea down to a stump; just the major roots to defeat now. It did get some revenge by getting me to scrap some knuckle skin off on the adjacent concrete.

    Good work people. Ouch @ForTheBees
My garden and I live in South Wales.
  • Did go to allotment this morning as received 5 Blackthorn whips ordered earlier in the week temporarily potted them up into some compost and gave them a water.

They are now sat outside ready to plant later next week in to the new wildlife hedge and in the hope of getting sloes in the next few years for gin 🍷🍷🍷😊

Sowed broad beans in modules and peas in old lengths of gutter in the poly tunnel will prep and cloche the ground for these next week.

HHog , the plot next to mine has a Blackthorn hedge and it puts out load of runner on my plot so decided to grow a couple of these and they are going well
O/H makes sloe Gin and very nice it is to 🍷
    Hope yours goes well

  • GWRS, I use to go foraging for sloes after the first hard frost but now we live on the coast we don't get many frosts and I have found you need a lot more sloes to make a good Gin if they have not been frosted.

I always freeze my sloes, warm the fresh Gin and sugar then add the frozen slows they split and shatter releasing a lot more juice, then put it into earthenware jars in a cool place for a year or two shear nectar. 🍷🍷 🥴

Thought I’d nip out and trim back the neighbours clematis and trees but the sleet and rain drove me back immediately.

ive noticed my glad bulbs and dahlia tubers are growing mould - can I just wash that off, and settle them in something dry?

Ha ha, and here I am thinking about delicately shifting mine to the front garden.

    Good luck!

Not actual gardening, but I did get a nice surprise when I noticed the flower buds on the Cyclamen coum I'd given up on... it's just a bit late this year.   :)
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

HHog , o/h always freezes sloes before using them , they split naturally , no need to prick them , lots of bushes around hear
    Cheers 🍷

No gardening here, too cold, but plenty of seed ordering and planning for the new year.  Almost went out today as the sun was shining but I've still got the remnants of a cold and thought it best to stay indoors.  Loved the snowy piccies but glad it's not here.
