Like the others, more leaf clearing. OH pulled up the sweetcorn and shredded it for the compost bin. I started to clear out my small wooden growhouse and found yet more paper bags of last year's bulbs - so more bulb planting tomorrow.
North East Somerset - Clay soil over limestone
  • Another productive day, weather not too nice though.

Watered stuff recently moved and then moved more stuff, oriental poppies, penstemon and verbascum Phoenician for the most part. Front garden which I'm emptying doesn't seem to have any less plants so started weeding as I suppose they are filling the gaps. Brown bin full again.

Dug up some bright yellow daffs and potted them. Brilliant daffs but as there are so many I've been unable to plant anything on top so will have to find them a new space.

Moved lovely Hosta June from a plastic pot to a nice one and started painting the new trellis.
    Wearside, England.
  • Lawn cut, beds tided and the final bulbs planted up today. Glorious weather at the moment, lovely clear blue skies.

Picked last of my Tomatoes today, and some fennel to go with tea..and some chrysanthemums..and sweetpeas..
  • That's a good harvest Jeff123 - it makes my half dozen tomatoes look a bit feeble - we got blight on our outdoor toms - not a success this year.

Cut down a big clump of helianthus Lemon Queen - rescued several ladybirds, spiders and one of those shield bugs from the foliage before l chopped it up. Felt a bit guilty but the plants wouldn't survive the winter, so l put the creatures near the miscanthus where they can hopefully overwinter. Beautiful sunny day, very warm, but clouded over later. Days are drawing in fast  :/

I admit l get a bit twitchy by the time February comes around. I try and get out in the garden as often as l can over the winter. Just realised the clocks go back next weekend.

Making the most of the warm(ish) sunshine. Emptied out the last pots of summer bedding, tided up some nemesia and planted them in one of the beds. It's quite well drained, and l've found that if we get a dryish winter, they can survive. Worth a try anyway. Saw the forecast for Friday onwards, it is supposed to get colder, so OH has promised to assemble coldframes tomorrow and has put battery for his screwdriver on charge. Come in for a cuppa and a scone with raspberry jam, yum !
  • Sun was shining bright today and still very warm so made the most of it and tackled the overgrown-ish dog rose which also had a very vigorous viticella growing through it.  Eventually untangled it all and then got a bit overenthusiastic with the pruning.  It looks a bit bare now but I know it will bounce back strongly next spring and be all the better for it.
