Popped into our soon to be closed Homebase in search of bargains but only got tray of violas. Will keep popping in to check. Picked probably the last of the cherry tomatoes for lunch (I need the pots for tulips and the violas soon).  The bamboo in a trough I thought was very dead because of the drought, has suddenly shown signs of life so I need to make a decision on what to do with it. Difficult one that.

Planted some polyanthus and did a bit of weeding, soil's just right now for it.
  • Continued sorting out the raspberries, I really ought to move to a new spot & start again as the yeild is dropping off but it's a lot of work to move the cage & all the supports.

Picked the rest of the cherry tomatoes at allotment and pulled up the plants as well
  • Goodish day, got the lawn mowed, been waiting for it to dry out but garden doesn't get much sun at this time of year.

Mended the trellises that got damaged in a storm earlier this year and ordered two new ones to sit above fence level to replace the two that were beyond local repair.

Potted up a geranium phaeum seedling that I need for the new trellis border. Looking forward to getting it planted up but need the brown bin emptying again to clear the rest of the debris.

Did some bird feeder and hedgehog plate cleaning administration.

I cut down some tall rose branches on top of the rose arch and the arbour before we have more high winds. I also cut down the thalictrum and aconitum now both have finished flowering and the caryopteris overhanging the drive - my car reversing alarm has been going berserk lately. Found that a stray and overlooked wisteria branch has snaked through the "dead" bamboo and is making a determined break for freedom up the neighbouring birch tree!  As it's currently helping to keep the bamboo trellis fence upright, I feel inclined to leave it alone until we have to replace the fence next year.

  • We planted another new tree in one of the fields this morning - hole already prepared - one more to plant this Autumn - a Rowan which is a beautiful 8 foot sapling with colourful leaves.  Photo to follow.  I also removed excessive weed from the pond this afternoon among other things.
