I have noticed this too @AlliumPurpleSensation - the birds are doing are great job! Nearly finished clearing a section of fresh soil, ready for some Heleniums and something else orange (as yet undecided). Dug up some Forget-me-nots from the lawn edge and potted-up until I decide where to transplant them. Potted up a lovely Akebia, which I purchased last Autumn, which is going against a small trellis by the front door. Sounds good @Guernsey Donkey2 - my trial wildflower patch was a bit of a fail last year but hoping some of the perennials might appear this year.
I am over the moon! I have recently dropped a day and Monday is my non working day - the weather was so lovely I spent most of it outside today. Nothing creative sadly, but I did loads of tidying up : shredding, mulching, filling up the brown bin, lawn mowing and weeding. Let's hope for continued good weather!
Got lots done today, repotted an agapanthus, weeded borders, tidied greenhouse and watered plants, planted some delphiniums and tomorrow is our first green bin day of the year so I will be able to clear some of the backlog of weeds etc. Tired but happy.
Did some tidying in my mother in law's garden today, pruning hydrangeas and weeding for her. Sun was out but still a chilly wind. Hoping the weather forecast is correct !
Finished cutting new lawn edges, did some weeding, fertilising and pruning a rather overgrown Continus "Grace" which was a bit beyond my current capabilities, so had to go and have a lie down! Oh well, there is always tomorrow, aided by Voltarol.
Dug up a bucketful of rosebay willowherb roots, planted out some perennials grown from seed last year, removed more moss, mulched some beds. Still very soggy in the beds, but the weeds are growing...
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
After battling with soil that's the consistency of uncooked Christmas pudding, I finally got some early spuds in today. It's still a bit claggy but no where near as bad as it was, still have not been able to do any direct sowing though, parsnip , beetroot etc. The trouble now will be that areas where the rain has bashed it down are developing a dry crust. So I am having to fork it again. The no dig fraternity will be having a field day with "I told you so"
What about raking to break up the crust and get a tilth rather than digging ... that's the way I do it ... and that way, unless the veg bed is huge, you can probably do it without walking on the bed.
At last I've got some Cos and some Little Gem lettuce planted out, some are under a cloche so they'll be ready first.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

Wondered what was going on with the missing coir in my strawberry planter until I saw a big wood pigeon helping himself.
It was cloudy, but at last not too cold. No sign of many of the perennials yet, but feeling gladdened by Spring at last.
