  • This little guy was sunning himself at the allotment the other day.

There are hundreds of crickets and grasshoppers on site, this is a cricket if you weren't sure.

Thanks GD...and lucky you for having a Bullfinch visit your feeders, the female is like a toned down version of the male, with a peachy / grey breast, you will spot the difference straight away if a female turns up.

What a beast, HH...I lost all my shots of Crickets when a hard drive failed on me.

This is one of the female bullfinches that visits me. A bit more Farrow and Ball than her gaudy husband.

If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

You could just call them that w.edges  :D
Lovely to have those visitors GD.  Beautiful birds. I've only seen bullfinches here once. They have so much suitable territory nearby, so never any need to come into gardens unfortunately.  We used to have a pair visiting at the last house though.
Those two youngsters are great Sheps. :)
We've got young dunnocks and sparrows. Not seen any young robins this year. Had one little one last year.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Thank you Sheps, wild edges and Fairygirl.  I must say we were surprised to see it in our garden, pleased we managed to get some pictures to enjoy of it.  I will look out for a female now I know what to look for - thanks we.

Sunflower Meadow, Parc Slip Nature Reserve, Fountain Road, Bridgend.
  • What a beautiful picture cornelly - I could quite happily sit in the middle of them and enjoy their majestic qualities.  It reminds me so much of my French holidays and then I see that the picture was taken in Bridgend! I must admit my memories of French sunflower fields was of taller and drier plants though, often too hot and dry for my comfort!

I love the plumage of the Golden Plover, the beautiful golden flecks really glow in the early morning light.
