I'd say that looks like a youngster that is not too far off fledging.

This year has been a revelation with birds. I had really no idea that birds had babies so late. I thought of hatching and fledging as a spring thing. I have seen all sorts of tiny moorhen and coots this week in the swimming lakes near me. I guess I just wasn't paying attention.
  • I think a lot of birds have had numerous broods with all the good weather the goldfinches brought another lot of chicks the other day to the feeders and the baby robin yesterday on the lawn.

I wondered as we have already seen two broods of Swallows from the other hide, and there are many Swallows flying around the lake at the reserve.

    This was a previous brood.

Such lovely birds. I once picked an injured one up off the side of the road and I can tell you that those talons are every bit as sharp as they look. :#
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
