Good morning nice looking start to the day oh heading to golf today, it's his birthday so shall make a favourite for dinner
NB is there a national society or independent body you could get in touch with? Don't know what your rules are but if you needed planning permission I would call building control, sounds ghastly, poor you.
Chicky, keep busy and get the room ready for her return, I used to strip the beds before they had even got airborne!
Dove please be very careful
going to spend the day cooking as head south soon for new baby grannie duties. Anyone any ideas what I could take as a meal for the first night? It has to travel in the train!

We are going to a memorial service for my friend who died from cancer recently. She was in the Royal Marsden so the real funeral will be in London, but she had friends here because they have a house here, so we are having a service at the same time with the same readings and hymns.
But first I need to water everything and plant a few plants I hadn't got around to because we are going to my son's tomorrow for christenings of his 2 yr old daughter and new baby daughter. He is half way to England so we are driving on and taking a ferry on Monday, going to Norfolk, to our cottage. I must put the horses in a new paddock and pack.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
I promise I will be careful folks after all, there's still tennis to watch
I'll put some beef short ribs into the slow cooker with some good things to make Asian-style sticky beef ribs to have with some noodles and stir-fried chard, then the bedroom needs a bit of a dust and a polish and the vacuum waved around, and there's dead heading to be done ... that should be enough for my first day of 'getting back to normal'
I hope the building work settles down NannyB, and that you and your OH can relax again soon.

Nanny - if you're able to take a photograph of the glass roof/soffit and either post it or PM me I'll see if I can help but it would be better if they explained to you how they plan to do it. As the floor was thoroughly soaked it will take some time - I mean weeks - to fully dry out and you'll continue to get condensation until it does. Ventilation is the cure at this time of year, while the air is warm and reasonably dry (assuming you haven't got torrential rain just now), so I'd ask them for a big portable fan rather than a dehumidifier (uses less electricity) until it's dried out - they can hire one in for you.
I'm really sorry to hear about your OH. I doubt there's much that reassurance can do - he just needs it done? But if it does help most major building projects are dirty, messy, problematic and come out OK in the end. Which is not to say you don't have to kick hard to get the service you should expect, only that I've rarely seen one - and I've seen lots - that's got done without any problems at all. The issue to focus on is not that the problem happened but that they remedy it. And for goodness' sake DON'T PAY all the money until everything is done to your satisfaction. No matter what sob story they come up with.

Just been out to 'do the rounds' this morning to be met with that damp earth, misty morning smell that is so redolent of autumn .
Still, the blackbirds had left a few raspberries and I got a nice handful of ripe blueberries to go with my breakfast and the garden looks a 'trifle soggy' (as Calamity Jane would say) but happier for all the rain on Tuesday
Working and food shopping today - hope you all have a good day and Dove - deadheading is fine but the vacuuming is strictly 'non essential'. Just sayin'

Hostafan I called at 9 yesterday, Boss did make site visit, (I was out with dogs) They are aware of Hubbies problems, but I know thats not their problems they are there to do a job, yesterday I just wanted roof on and watertight, various very eldery old dears going by saying ooh, you want to do this and that ooh, you dont want to let them do that. I knew the minute he came in from work he would start, wheres this whys that, some was just to make water tight, not the finnished product. Course, he said he KNEW this would happen, did I wish we never had it done. Well, the roof had been leaking a year, I was the one mopping up putting stuff underneath, unfortunately it was above a wall cupboard, so I couldnt squeeze anything very big up there to collect water. No type of planning permision we were replacing a roof on a 25 year old plus conservtory. Had a chat to sensible knowledgeable neighbour (who is an engineer) he said let them do the work, inspect it thoroughly when finnished, then iron out any snags. I know in the scheme of things with folks bereavments on here, it does sound like something trivial, and I do feel guilty for that. I saw a consultant last week about something worrying me, have a letter for my GP (He says he suspects it is something to worry about) so I was in a state about that, Hubby came with me, and is in such a state about the work, he didnt even ask me what the consultant said or how I got on. Its a bit complicated because although he is NHS and private, I saw him at a free skin/mole check, he isnt in my area or Hospital, so I know have to go to GP with his findings and start from stratch, unless I could afford to see him privately, which I doubt!
