Hi everyone. Back home after an enjoyable, but cold, visit to Harlow Carr. Gloves and scarf essential. Even the birds were cold; I shared my picnic with a pair of robins and a blackbird, all of whom were very keen on my Lidl maple & pecan plait.
Lots of lovely spring flowers - trilliums, bulbs, meconopsis, rhododendrons etc - so I was happy.
With Chicky, I'm not sure there's a "2017 garden visits" thread yet. I think I'll get one started...
Here is the camassia meadow, anyway.
(I'm happy you approve my pedantry re "Betty's", Hosta. Can't help myself... )
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
I've just come inside for a breather. I've been sorting pots etc outside (between hanging several loads of washing on the line).
the tubs of strawberries which I had taken into the GH over the warm season to keep birds from getting the fruit, are gradually being weeded, trimmed back, and topped up with fresh potting mix and then I'm taking them back outside for winter. That'll give me room for some of the more delicate plants to be under cover. Ho hum. It never ends, this rotation of pots, but I really do feel quite different when pottering around in the sun and fresh air. We had a cold start but a lovely mild sunny day so all good.
i think I heard on the weather channel that Goulburn had minus 7. I think we weren't as cold.
Last night I taught 32 cub scouts first aid; my poor ears! This side of the museum I will miss although I'm sure my partner will enjoy having to put up with me more in the evening.
Not sure what I'll be doing today (aside from deep cleaning the resusi dolls). Hopefully not too much.
Morning all/afties Pat - hope you don't get sub zero temps too soon. Not terribly warm here at the moment but it's dry - again. I can't remember it ever being so dry for so long here inthe west.
Congrats Clari - when do you start? Hope you're appreciated a bit more at the new job. Wouldn't be hard!
Gorgeous photo Liri. I fancied some of the white ones but I don't have any room in the places they would do well.
I'll just have to move again and start another garden....
Off for a look round before I go. Have a good day everyone.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Still getting the cold air from the northeast today. - talk of a high of 8C today - but apparently warmer weather is coming .... sometime ...
Still haven't found anyone to fix our downstairs loo either. OH says he'll have another go today. ... Failing that I'll ask if anyone at tennis has a tame handyman tomorrow ...
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Morning all. I expect the warm weather will come after we leave Norfolk. Leaving tomorrow to stay with friends (who I first met on this forum) in Malvern and we are going to the Malvern Spring Festival on Friday. Tonight we are going to the opera, Nabucco.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Hosta: I'm fairly new to this Forum so may not have all the facts, but I have picked up that you aren't sleeping well.
One of my daughters moved a couple of years ago and as soon as she did, a huge wind turbine was built near her home. She began to feel very ill and hardly sleeps. Checked out by gp, who says nothing wrong. Going on the internet, she found some people feel no effects and others definitely do. Unfortunately, those who feel no effects, rubbish this.
We have a chap coming round this morning to check our electricity. They claim we're using 19% more electricity than last year and are putting out bill up to £158 a month. I don't know anyone who spends that much.
We don't use a tumble drier, not even an electric kettle, the heating is oil, so just the boiler and we use the woodburner over winter so the heating isn't on all the time.
Does anyone think it's right? £158 a month for a 2 of us , plus the couple in the flat?
When we moved here 5 years ago it was £80 and at the time all the millions of light bulbs were 50w halogen, we've removed half of them and those left are now 4.5w LED.

Just wondered if you have a turbine near you?
Morning all.
Cloudier day here today. Coal face at 2pm.
