This morning we have an emergency trip to B&Q ... yesterday while I was playing in the garden OH managed to snap the handle of the downstairs loo (the bit inside the cistern ... it was a bit corroded ... it's probably as old as the house, so 1960s). He thinks he can sort it out himself which will be good as we phoned the local handyman but he's on holiday and his brother is booked up for 3/4 weeks!
Not sure what else I'll be doing ... I'll find something I'm sure ......... I ought to file the paperwork in the desk in the hall ...... but it's unlikely to happen today ...
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
I may be wrong, Dove, but I believe there's a gardening section in B&Q... When we were first married, OH and I became known as "the couple who know how to mend the loo". The houses were all built at the same time, but our flush went wrong first, so we worked out how to fix it and then went around the neighbourhood doing other peoples'. (First a friend's, then he told his neighbour etc...) A good way of making new friends, we found.
Another lovely vase of flowers, Pat. It's good your roses are carrying on in spite of the weather!
Are your hedgehogs around, Hosta? They love birds' eggs.
I've made a sandwich for my lunch at Harlow Carr. Betty's is very tempting but somewhat pricey...

Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
I had the most wonderful moist stem ginger cake at Betty's while I was there years ago. been looking for a recipe since.
Clari - rhubarb makes great chutney - I ahve a good recipe if you like - and you can also make rhubarb gin or vodka or cordial and, now you have leccy, freeze it in portions for later in the year. Lots of recipes here - https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/search/recipes?query=rhubarb
It's sunny here with the odd cloud around. Need another coffee and then play time. I decided to tidy up one of the wisterias yesterday pm and ended up giving it a short back and sides and then "tidied up" the nearby crab apple so we need to clear all that away and then move a lot of my treasures in pots out of the way so I can get up a ladder and tackle the other wisteria which has snuck behind the gutter. Don't want it heading under the roof tiles.
Hope everyone has some decent weather for their projects today and that loo gets foxed Dove..
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.
"The price good men (and women) pay for indifference to public affairs is to be ruled by evil men (and women)."
Harrumph! OH's Monkey Wrench will not remove the broken bit ... have given up and phoned another plumbing handyman type chap ... he will call back.
I will pop down to W'rose for some ground almonds ... a lemon polenta cake is needed to console us. I expect to lose vast quantities of weight having to run upstairs to the loo, so there'll be room for cake calories won't there

Enjoy Harlow Carr, Liri. Good luck with the loo, Dove, not sure about your dieting methods! The idea is not to find room for more calories
We will be going to the local Tesco to get supplies to take back to France for us and my children. The GC next door had clematis Rebecca, think I'll buy one if they still have any. But we are waiting for a delivery from Amazon, OH has ordered for me a retractable washing line for the cottage.
LG, I don't know if I'll ever know about the old lady but the policewoman said she'd send me an email and photos of my car. If it hadn't been for all the locals turning up I probably wouldn't have reported it, the scratch isn't huge, but I didn't know they thought she was a hazard.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Yes please on the chutney recipe OB! My partner isn't much of a sweet things fan so when I tend to bake a cake... I tend to eat it all.
Which is fine I guess but when I put on my shirt for my interview last week it was... rather more big boobies sexy receptionist wanting a pay rise than I remember it being.
Still.... I got the job!
Today is my last day home alone in the museum! Mondays have already traditional been the museums "day off" during term time. This is fine except that its a struggle for me to find volunteers or staff willing to swap days to come in when a school want to visit on a Monday so I did my best to keep it clear.
The trouble will keeping it clear is... I'm home alone with nothing but the dressing up box to entertain me.
Still: while its quiet I'm taking home my Ikea childrens toy box storage tidy thing that I purchased to keep all the pens / pencils / etc. tidy in the classroom. I'm thinking it will fit in the greenhouse quite well once varnished and I can use the tubs (plastic and water proof with lids that I'm sure will help act like propagator lids) to grow the likes of salad and herbs in. We always eat a lot of salad but I've never had much success at it and my herbs have been very much abused and neglected of late.

so so is the answer LP thanks. I'm sure if I added all the bits of sleep together it'd make a decent total, but very fragmented.
morning Clari, sorry didn't see you there, glad the house is coming along. And hope you get back into the greenhouse!

Good morning all.
Another lovely, if breezy day. Need to make the most of it LP
Hosta, you need to eat to give you energy for all the work you are doing.
Pat, love the autumn colours of your flowers
LGtheL, that greenhouse would be ideal for me the area it would fit is too shady
Wonky, your garden is going to be lovely with all the work and planting you are doing

Thanks Joyce. I'm glad you like them. Rather vibrant compared to spring blossoms, but you'll all get your turn before you know it.
