All my grandparents and both parents were born in Derbyshire, but I was born in Nottinghamshire. My first job in Derbyshire, all of 10 miles from where I was born and brought up, a lady peered at me, and announced. "You're not from round 'ere, are ya?"

Our gendarme neighbour is originally form teh French Ardennes but grew up in Paris and married a girl form Les Sables d'Olonne. He's very dismissive of the previous owners here who, he says, are from the village and have never left the Vendée. We spent 23 years in our house in Belgium but it was outside the village so we never, ever integrated despite our best efforts. They even treated our farmer neighbour as an outsider because he was sent to agricultural school in Ciney from the age of 12 and only came home at weekends. Villages can be strange places.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

See learnincurve, I told you you'd open a can of worms.
Just found something which tickled me.
Waitrose Garden magazine ( free with My Waitrose card, lovely tulip on the front ) page 51 has a competition to win a stay in a Cornwall hotel. Anyway...... one of the photos is of a bedroom with the same wallpaper we have in our bedroom, except theirs is upside down. It has wisteria flowers and they've hung it with them pointing upwards.
Hubby, who knows about these things, says it's because it's handprinted wallpaper and is rolled " the other way" to machine printed paper
I live in Dordogne, SW France, but I was born in Suffolk. OH sold his house in France and we bought a cottage in Norfolk, not far from the Suffolk border. My daughter, an English teacher in France took a school trip to Derbyshire and she said it was so beautiful that if we had lived there my first OH wouldn’t have wanted to live in France.
The choir lunch was fun, but the food wasn't the best. It was catered by a village restaurant. There was singing after lunch, including a song by John Denver sung by the two men soloists, tenor and baritone.
Just been watering my pots, they were very dry after all this sun, even though I have done some watering. I've been wearing a summer top today.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Just read back. Lovely photo again from Fairy, gosh that water is so blue. BM’s bed is coming on well. Wonder how Wonky’s greenhouse is doing. Must go and put mine to bed, don’t want the babies getting cold in the night with the door and windows open.

I've only been to Derbyshire once, but will be repeating the experience this July when the choir I sing in is performing in the Buxton festival fringe. I'm from the south but have lived two thirds of my life in the north, currently in a little town in west Yorks, in the Pennines, very close to the Lancashire border (we have a Lancs postcode and STD code). My OH, from Bradford, would of course agree with Clari... I tend to side with Fairy, and love the west coast of Scotland. West Yorks isn't bad though.
Nice to see your photos. It's great to start a new garden...
This afternoon I've been sowing seeds, mostly veg but a few pretties too. The sunny, warm weather has finished here for a bit, I think; max 11C tomorrow, though no rain forecast.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

I think you are probably nearer to punkdoc than me.
My wisteria has buds an inch long. Some way off flowering yet , I think.

I work with someone who often makes curtains for people. She did a similar thing
