    Hi all.

Just in, been in the garden since early. OH even decided to help [ I have to be careful what jobs she does, as weeds and plants are all the same to her ]

Very hot and bothered now, so bath and then a lie down.

OH backed the winner in the GN, so is a happy bunny.

How can you lie there and think of England
When you don't even know who's in the team

Anyone need a bit of Sunday silliness?

Two of my neighbours are digging ponds in their gardens at the moment (obviously wanting to steal away my slug eating army of frogs).

The more elderly of the two chaps has produced a wonderfully elaborate feature with a rock pool, raised banking on one side, a bridge across the middle.

The younger of the two chaps. Christ knows what the pond looks like but if he doesn't put sun cream on soon he'll be put in the most unusual of places. image

I rang Wonky about 2.30 ............... no real evidence of  any activity . just a murmur and a promise to phone me later ... I suggested tomorrow would be fine.  image

There had been a chance that son would be calling here to crash in the spare room following a 'get out' in Solihull and a meeting today in Norfolk, but the meeting today was cancelled so he went straight home arriving at 5am to find his cat being terrorised by a starling which had got in via the chimney.  Just as well he went home, the mess could have been horrendous and as his house is on the market he'd have had a lot of rushed cleaning to do!

Fairy, the National was fantastic - a good race and a worthy winner image  Did I ever tell you that my cousin nearly trained a National Winner - Smart Tar in '89  - two fences from home with a good lead ahead of Little Polveir and he took a great leap at the second last fence and unseated a young Carl Llewellyn leaving Little Polveir with nothing to do but get over the last fence unscathed.   That's the last time I ever put money on a race.   Sadly the following year Smart Tar slipped and broke his hind leg while being exercised in a training pool  a few days before the National image  John Francome had been tipping him to win.

Ooh err Dove. Close run things are the name of the game aren't they?  That's the wonderful weirdness of the National. Shame about the horse but that's racing - horses in general. I used to miss it most years as I was always working - what a great invention video recorders were!

Had to come in as the rain's a bit heavy now and it was time to do the dinner anyway. Ideal for watering in the lawn weed 'n' feed. Got a lot done and all the bark put down along the boundary etc. Garden's slowly taking shape. Very pleasing  image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

Rain started here too Fairy. Gentle rain during the night would suit me fine and save me watering the new planting.

It's been a good day for working outside here Joyce. Not particularly warm, and a bit of a breeze, but dry and reasonably sunny most of the time. The rain's just right  image

    afternoon all.

Turned very cool here and misty by the coast.

Grumpy customers ( all holidaymakers ) One complaining about sending them 4 cartons of milk " I ordered 4 pints!!!!!!," I pointed out to her on her original order she'd ordered 4 cartons and calmly offered to take them back.

No lunch again in order to make up for lost time. In Tuesday then  off for a week as we're closed next Sunday.

Not sure if I'll make it to the end of Vera tonight but have told Hubby I'll try. image

It's been almost 24C in the shade here - when I'd potted and transplanted and sowed enough I lay on the lawn and gazed into the pond, listening to the frogs plopping into the water and watching the pond snails eating the algae and duckweed and some greater water boatmen sculling around ... did you know that they sing with their penises and they're the loudest creature on the planet, for their size.  image

  • Hello everyone waves cheerfully I'm new.

I've also just moved house from a place (I live in the best county, which is clearly Derbyshire) that was on solid clay, to a place that has a huge garden that needed a bit of wrestling into submission and borders creating but is now a lovely blank slate.  I also got me a new allotment which is just round the corner. I am a happy happy gardener image

spent the  weekend digging over the allotment and got the first plants in the garden, it wants to rain soon, it's not rained here in two weeks and my hose does not reach my borders.  image

I have to correct you , the best county is Devon, OBVIOUSLY.  duh.

Cue lots of others to come along and say theirs is best. ( unless they live in Devon, they're wrong. imageimage
