I have managed to get out and water all my treasures - both new and those brought from Belgium - and it has been a trial but everything is now OK for a couple of days. Getting warm enough to strip down to my t-shirt and jeans with no socks.
Other than that I am reduced to noting the names of all the shrubs and roses and clems which haven't lost their labels and making a spreadsheet of names, sizes, colours, preferred aspect, pruning times etc in the hopes of making it into some sort of record or journal.
Does anyone know where I can find recordings of bird song so I can start to get to know the local birds who, unlike children, are often heard but not seen?
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

The Undergardener put his digging boots on and came out and started digging over the veg patch, taking out the remains of the perpetual spinach and Swiss chard which has been brilliant.
Within the next little while I'll be spreading the compost we made last year and raking it over and we'll be read.y to start again ........... the broad beans are already flowering!!!
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Been at a conference today so no gardening. Fog for this morning's drive and rain on way back. The lunch was the best I've had at a meeting ever! Not a curly sarnie nor beige nibble in site!
Just spotted Stargazing Live is on tonight (bbc2 8pm) - bit geeky but I love it.
AuntyRach if it wasn't curly sarnies and beige nibbles, what was it?
I love Stargazing Live - I'm fascinated by the stars and planets etc - I don't understand a lot about them, but I feel they're incredibly important and I love to look at them in awe and wonder. After all, they're what caused our ancestors to start counting and calculating the passage of time. Amazing

Yes indeed. We're so lucky in the UK with our weather - ok, it's not always what we'd choose, but at least we don't get such extremes here.
Today was warmer than the last 2 but not so sunny. Art class this morning, then a damp but warm afternoon clearing up after the lime pointing man. He did a good job, but inevitably there were bits all over the place, including in the little ditch which takes rainwater away from the bank behind the house, and lime dust all over the windows etc. Just got finished before the rain started in earnest.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Evening all. Managed a bit of hacking, pruning and grass cutting, and a few other things. Body's not protesting too much. Glad you got out for a bit too Obelixx. The hassle of reaching 27....
Hope your friends are ok fidget. Hopefully they'll get in touch with you.
Beige nibbles
Northern lights - that's something that would be worth seeing. So many northern parts of the UK are good for viewing. Another item for the list
Damp here now too Liri. Just realised we haven't had any since last Monday when it turned into the white stuff. It's been frost and sun since, till today's low cloud/mist.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Obelixx - try the RSPB identifier pages https://www.rspb.org.uk/birds-and-wildlife/bird-and-wildlife-guides/bird-a-z/r/robin/
There are audio recordings of each bird as well as descriptions, pics etc.
Our robin is singing very loudly today
