The week we arrived here our new neighbours handed me a carrier bag full of culinary quinces. I now have several pots of jelly and made a tart with the rest. Thing is, we don't really eat much jam or jelly and I must have well over a 100 jars of the stuff from using up excess blackcurrant, purple gooseberry and redcurrant crops in the Belgian garden plus all the chutneys which we do eat regularly.
I'll try glyphosate on the hemerocallis patch. It might take a few goes.........

We've got a quince Dove - but it's a mature tree and full of scab or some other horrid fungal disease. The fruits are usually a bit marked and don't store at all well but they do make excellent jelly. I'm usually giving quinces away in October so if I see you then I'll bring a bag
Sorry to hear about all the rubbish on other threads. Haven't seen it yet but I bet I know who's involved - shall have a sneaky chocolate bet with myself - two squares for every correct answer
And bu$$er having coffee to cheer yourself up - I have a selection of different gins here - we could have a little compare and contrast session if you like
Hello to everyone else. Sorry you're confined to barracks again Fairy. I could get out this afternoon but it's a bit windy & grey & my tendonitis is subsiding nicely - so probably best to have another day away from the hand weeding.
We are supposed to be on hols in the Lakes at the moment but a poorly puss cat put the kibosh on that. I'm staying home to look after him. OH was taking the camper on his own for 3 or 4 days walking from tomorrow - but we've just had a phone call from Keswick campsite to say they're evacuating the site because it's expected to flood tonight.
Another change of plans...

Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
A gin tasting sounds a good idea! I have some Norfolk Gin from the farm shop- (a present) which I've not broached yet ... very remiss of me! A regular customer of the farm shop used to give them a load of quinces every year ......... but then they moved They've not been able to source any more locally

You two are mad eof sterner stuff than me! Gin tasting this early? On the other hand, I do have some nice cold tonic. At this time of day I can relish a decent Buck's Fizz with brunch or light wine with lunch but not usually spirits........
It's turned breezy so the hemerocallis get a reprieve.
I went on a student trip to the Lakes one Easter - '72? - and we were snowed in so no surprise there's extreme rain in March. Went camping there when I was about 8 one wet early summer with my grand-parents whose habit was to pitch a huge old WW2 army tent in a field, dig a drainage ditch round it for the rain and a hole in a corner for the loo. Put me off camping for life. Still love the Lakes tho.

I can vouch for the handy ignore button. It works a treat. Some folk have nothing better to do than meddle, make mischief, stir....... Methinks they are sad pathetic lonely individuals who really need something more constructive and positive in their lives.
If folk don't like what I say, go on, ignore me. I'm sure I've been ignored by far better people in the past. Most posters are just " words on a screen" I can live without them. Those I have met are a different matter altogether.
Rise above it Dove, you are a superior person in every respect. xx
Been out slaying Russian vine and sorting out the herb garden, with a good deal of OH's muscle power too. Now indoors for a mug of soup ......... whether I go out there again this afternoon depends on the whether the sun puts in an appearance or not - the wind's a bit chilly and needs something to warm it up .........

For the record Dove - Norfolk gin is very good (maybe a hint of cloves to it?) - and in a lovely stone bottle which is too good to throw away when it's empty.
Met the owner of the distillery in the W/rose just up the road from you a few weeks ago. He was driving some tiny little single seater car which is even smaller than a Merc Smart car. It was no bigger than an old bubble car. As he said - it's ideal for parking in the city when making deliveries - and can even be parked perpendicular to the pavement without sticking out in the road.

I once spent a summer fortnight in the Lakes - not a drop of rain the entire time - OH does not believe it's possible .......

Yes, OH says it's made very near to us ..... do you think we could install a pipeline?
