Is it lovely there Dove?! Unimaginable here right now - rain driving against the windows and due to continue all day. I've just heard our empty dustbin go flying across the road so I'm going to have to get dressed to go and retrieve it.
Those who were asking about my job... no immediate alternative plans, just had to get out, for my own sanity. Not without regret - been there 18 years and my profession (rather than my job) is key to my identity, so am somewhat discombobulated! But it is not a good time to be in the public sector. Horrible things are happening. I'm lucky that for a couple of reasons - needless to say, not my rates of pay - I can afford to 'chuck it all in', at least for a while. I'm a long way off retirement age, though not far from early retirment age I suppose. I won't have any trouble filling my time, I know, though as I'm not in retirement mode I am struggling with the answer to the question 'what are you going to do next?' - don't really know what to say. RHS exams are one part of the not-very-formulated plan.
The Chrysler Building is one of my favourites too. I have a beautiful photo of its top hanging just outside my bedroom door.
Fairy, I am still SO envious of your nuthatches. How lovely they are. And speaking of envy - fab rhubarb Dove. I am going to plant some this year, but it'll be a while before I have a proper crop. Any variety recommendations?
Wonky, hope the weather holds for you to start on your pergola. Can't wait to see pictures.
Right, better go and chase the dustbin lid. It's travelled a good few feet since I started writing this.
'If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need.'
Probably at the same speed, Dove. I assume they don't make such a large mess as the Roos. I'm always upset at the number of new bodies on the side of the road when driving to town. Especially the young ones.
On a happier note, have you yet seen the TV footage of our Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras that was held last night? Didn't mean to hot the underline, sorry.
bl..day iPad is too small for my fingers sometimes.
When heading north - it's deer that you meet on the road. Although they're not actually confined to more northern areas - we used to get them scuttling the narrower roads en route to school/work when we lived further away, and it wasn't in the most rural bits either, so it was always a bit of a surprise
Pheasants aren't the brightest are they, Dove?
The nutties are an absolute delight LG. I feel very priviledged to have them as they're not common up here at all
Good luck with your plans - whatever they might be, and more importantly - collectiing the bin....
It's very calm here today . We've had very little rough stuff this winter, so no real damage or issues, for a change. I'm even considering putting the washing out as it's sup[posed to be fairly dry with even a little...sun...
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Raining here. Can't garden, did HW and ironing yesterday. Finished my book last week, Labyrinth by Kate Mosse. Haven't started another one yet. Have loads of paperwork to file, haven't done it for ages, but the study is freezing cold. OH turns the rads off to save fuel bills. Hate filing anyway. But my 2 new photo albums arrived so I think I'll stick in some more photos.
Whenever I've shopped in Waitrose the people at the tills have always been very nice. There was a lovely man in Eastbourne, must have been well over retirement age.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Fairy I'm shocked! We have the drizzle dark rain predicted for the whole day! so pergola plans are on hold for now but in my head it looks fantastic! however, I'm going to have to have a rethink on what to climb it as I want something evergreen....everything I'd had planned to move to the pergola, dies back. LG has recommended an evergreen Jasmine which I like the look of but it is a big space and can do with more than one climber.
Hurrumph!!! Ate our dippy eggs and toastie soldiers, put the coffee to brew next to a box of seed packets on the dining room table and went out and gathered pots, seed trays, compost etc ... came back in, poured the coffee - turned around and there's torrential rain hammering on the windows!
So it's not a gardening day here either then
It'll have to be knitting on the sofa in front of the athletics while slow roast belly of pork, baked apples and tatties chunter in the oven for supper.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

G'day Pat ... Pheasants lurk at the side of the road here and then decide to scuttle across as we drive past ... not as bad as kangaroos!

If I start a new one, it'll go away. Last night was very colourful.

Morning all, afternoon Pat
neighbours have kindly woken us...
again....wouldn't have minded if it wasn't due to rain all day!
Not sure what the day will have in store....bit restless....have to keep occupied, gardening would have been nice!
Good luck retrieving the bin LG! The RHS qualification sounds a great start to your career break! You could end up doing something you really love!
Fairy, what are you saying? You don't have rain? You want my washing too?
Its actually got dark outside again now!
I know Wonks - no rain - hard to believe isn't it? Not even the mizzly drizzly stuff we had yesterday
How are your pergola plans coming on?
