Hello again - I'm back from the city with yarn and knitting pattern - I wore my calf length thick down padded coat, warm boots, scarf, gloves and OH's woolly Russian hat with ear flaps - not 'cool', but very warm.
Liri, there seems to be a real dearth of patterns for plainish men's sweaters that don't look as if they were designed in the 1960s. Plenty with lots of cabling and collars etc, but DS wants a plainish one - I found one eventually but think there's an error in the pattern as the photograph shows an unturned collar with a cast-off edge, whereas the making up instructions direct you to turn the neckband to the inside and slipstitch it loosely in place ... oh well, we'll wait until we get that far and see what DS wants.
Have heard from Wonky that her two new jumpers arrived safely and are 'just perfect'.
Now to put the kettle on - I shall join you all on the sofa - very tempted to watch Quo Vadis - haven't seen that for a very long time - always love Peter Ustinov playing a baddie
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
I'm on the sofa too But no knitting here, just piles of gardening magazines
Snowdrops were a bit of a whiteout - and those that you could see were tightly shut so you couldn't see their markings. Popped in to our local independent GC on the way home for birdfood and left with two mahonias - Charity and Winter Sun.
A couple of hours relaxing is on the cards, then must go and get my glad rags on .....Italian restaurant in London tonight for the final celebration of littlest Chicklet's birthday with uncles, aunts, cousins and Grandad
Just back from a lovely meal out with the family. Weather is vile but we are full and contented.
I know what you mean about patterns for men's pullovers, Dove. I've not yet found one my OH would consider wearing... he doesn't moan about hand-knitted socks, though; no nasty seams to hurt your toes, and it's easy to alter the pattern to accommodate broad feet or narrow ankles.
Your kittens sound wonderfully entertaining, Obelixx. Is it Cosmos who's all white? I bet he won't stay that way once he's been outside exploring...
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Afternoon - Not a nice day out there. Wish it would have a proper dump down of snow so it would (a) Look pretty and (b) I'd feel justified in lighting the fire early and snuggling down with hot chocolate or similar. Instead I feel I should be 'doing things'.
Obx - those kittens sound like furry bundles of fun and pure mischief. I love it when they're that age It will be 'interesting' if they're still as inquisitive and playful when you're decorating the new kitchen - all those tins & trays of paint lurking about.... Just saying....
Knitting talk has made me think I might fancy taking it up again. Spent some time looking at patterns in one of the big haberdashery departments in London. There are some beautiful yarns out there. Quite inspirational.
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
As a beginner knitter, I've contented myself with scarves but using fancy stitches to make a holey effect. Haven't done any knitting since a primary school project so I've had to google for instructions on casting on and deciphering knit-speak but that's OK and it keeps me busy when I'm watching TV and not minding kittens! Thought I might progress now and do a garment, starting with a simple sleeveless tank top for OH as he likes them for golf. Google found lots of patterns online and plenty of those free.
Chicky - hope your dinner goes well. Great to get the family together.
Liri - glad you've had a good feed.
We're out at the neighbours tonight so no idea what we'll be eating but tartiflette was mentioned. I love tartiflette...........
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.
"The price good men (and women) pay for indifference to public affairs is to be ruled by evil men (and women)."
Afties all - home from the hill - albeit a different one as the weather was looking a bit dodgy down Glen Etive - in fact, it was looking dodgy all round so I went and did a hill I did last spring - across from The Bookil, as it was looking a bit clearer there. I might be a loony Hosta, but I'm a sensible one
Is this enough snow for ya?
It was gey windy so there was a fair bit of wind chill up top, and as you can see, there was a 'wee dicht of snow' - as we say here.
Will sort photos later. Got some good ones although it was tricky keeping the camera still.
How is your Dad doing chicky? Hope he enjoys the celebrations
Moon was gorgeous this morning en route Joyce, but I couldn't stop to get a photo. Glad you're a bit chirpier. I was snug and asleep at 2am though
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Chicky - Gal. Mighty Atom has just raised it's beautiful head - it'll be open very soon
Just put a big pot of chilli on the hob - it'll chunter away all afternopn and be absolutely delicious by the time OH comes home
There'll be loads to freeze as well.
Have a lovely evening - hope littlest Chicklet has enjoyed all her celebrations.

Kitten fun - http://s211.photobucket.com/user/Obelixx_be/library/170211%20Kittens%20first%20outing?sort=2&page=1 We reckon Minstrel is 7 months or so now and Cosmos we know is coming up to 5 months.
