Very moving story Liri. We've uncovered some sad things about my uncle who died late last year. Not really for sharing though.

Madeira would be too hot for me -  I'll stick with draughty, wet, snowy old Scotland, and all it's fierce beauty.  image

Dove - I'm going to have to seriously disagree with you. We have more sky than it's possible to use in a lifetime  image  image

LG - we're here whenever you feel the need. Sometimes just reading other people's ramblings - I have a lot of those - is comforting. I've found that many times here image

Hosta's bonking toads might bring a smile to your face, even if the image isn't so cheery.....image image

Hope LP is a bit more like herself today too.

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Average Jan maximum temp is 16 in Madeira, Fairy - tends to be what my Mum would have called "cardigan weather".  Good mountains too...  image

If my body never had to go below 20C ever again, I'd be happy.

Did anyone watch the programme on Ch 4 last night about the couple who moved to an island in Indonesia?

    Devon.

That would be just about fine for me then Liri - our average summer temp is below 20  image

Any snow though? We've had a shortage on the hills this winter!  image

  • Hello all,

I'm not ignoring you all either, I've been busy and when not busy either sleeping or reading, trying to find ways to relax more. image Not in my natural nature but much needed at the moment.

Sorry to hear you are ill again Dove. image

I have been working hard on the Chateau de Gateau project, I have finally found someone to help me who knows what needs doing and in what order and has already made a number of phone calls to get things moving again. I am hoping that within a couple of weeks the presentation in all it's glory will be ready for the bank and then they can at least say yes or no and I can get on with ever follows that decision. I have had a lot of wavering moments over the whole thing but am feeling better, much more determined now I have had a chance to talk the whole thing over with people who know what I am letting myself in for.image

I am staying off the computer quite a lot, silly how certain things get me down, so to those that have messaged me and commented on my situation, I do appreciate it and am grateful for your kind words, I'm just not quite up to responding, I get too tearful but I am hopefully turning a corner now and will be back to 'normal' soon.

I hope you are all ok, I have noticed signs of spring so that is very something to look forward to very much. image

  • Great to hear from you, DD.  So glad things seem to be looking up a bit - little steps, but progress nevertheless.  Best wishes to you and Charlie.  x

No long-lasting snow in Madeira, Fairy; highest point is 6,100 ft but it's too far south for the snow to last long.  Having said that, when we were there last Feb the road across the top of the island was closed by snow for 3 days.  Not surprisingly, they don't keep snow ploughs, so once the road is impassible it stays blocked until it thaws...

Hi we had a cooler day here but also had 6mm of rain. I enjoyed reading the bbc report. I hope every one has a pleasant weekend, and hope you feel a bit better Dove. DD hope all goes to plan with your tea cafe

Good to hear from you DD. You've a lot on your plate so it's no wonder you need a bit of time just to catch up with yourself. It's all very well 'keeping busy' , but everyone needs a little time to stop and think, and get some peace and quiet in whatever way suits best. xxx image

    Hosta - what a f*nny!  image

Liri - it's funny how certain countries get caught out if they get freak snow isn't it? I was in northern Spain about eight years ago and it snowed for the first time in ten or fifteen years. The place ground to a complete halt in minutes. We couldn't get home. The pylons all collapsed under the weight of it because they're not built to withstand that!
