Morning all! Stealing half an hour of peace (my school group are exploring on their own) and taking the chance to sneak in and say hello.
I've decided to dig out my 5:2 diet book and do something about my
a) rather overly cuddly belly
b) increased family risk of diabetes
Today is my first fasting day. Has anyone else done 5:2? I did it before (when it first came out) and felt great, but I found (oddly you'd imagine) that come my feast days I... didn't really feel hungry! You expect to be famished but I struggled to eat enough (yes I admit to get my calories up I could snack on a chocolate brownie but I'm not really sure thats in the right spirit of things!) Perhaps when spring starts to make its appearance more work in the garden might help boost my appetite.
This year his lordship mentioned the garden was looking a mess. I can't disagree with him. But it matches the house so nicely (electrics SHOULD be going in soon.... haven't I said that before?) I still haven't finalised my plans for the garden, I keep changing my mind. I'm currently thinking about triangle shaped vegetable beds to make more of a visual statement (until the garage is built they will be on view from the house) and also avoid any having to stretch over long distances. I think tomorrow (yay weekend) I might get a spray can out if it is dry and mark out some beds on the lawn and see how they look.
It might at least prevent his lordship from mentioning the state of the place if he realises that he is my apprentice digger!
Keep safe everyone. I better get back out there and patrol the corridors of the museum. It is so strangle quiet with such a small group in today!
Hello , Michael Portillo , railway journeys , watched most of them , currently recording the new American one , also for Christmas have been bought his railway journey books
Lovely sunny day in Lincoln a bit like a spring day
OH and I did 5:2 a couple of years ago and it worked well for us Clari but then I ha dto spend 6 months on a sofa waiting for new feet to heal so blubbered. Since then, OH has retired so it's not a practical option - he has stayed slim - and I've been doing 16:8 since the NY and it's working so far.
I've been playing with some woftware to design our new potager and have concluded that all the beds will be rectangular or square for purely practical purposes such as hoeing, sowing, planting, harvesting, protecting with mesh against pests and also making sure the material used to make the raised beds yields maximum area.
I would definitely go with leccy first so you can start on getting the walls finished and have a comfy home.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

Ob: electrics is definately a priority but not something I can do hands on. After all... no electrics = no propagator! I'm itching to sow chilli seeds but alas have no where to put them.
Hugs for LG. Take care Poppet, pop in and chat as and when you feel like it.
Went on storm drain patrol and found 2 bonking toads, oops, SOZ!!!! and found lots of frog spawn in one corner of the lake. Summer is coming.
I'm trying to get my head around re-organising the garage as everything is pretty much where we dumped it 5 years ago. I feel new shelves and a shuffle about coming on.
I'm sure this cuppa and bit of cake will help the thought processes.
The promised wind and rain have both arrived. The wind, mercifully , isn't as bad as yesterday.
Joyce - it's a form of mild fasting where you eat nothing for 16 hours of the day and then two meals in the remaining 8 hour slot. Suits my system very well as I've never been a fan of breakfast except as a late brunch at weekends or when staying in hotels and then not eating a lunch.
For dieting purposes, the 8 hours need to be restricted to 1500 calories. 3 kilos gone since Jan 5th despite being more or less inactive cos of the broken toe.
Clari, if OH likes his food spicy, give him a kick up the rear to get the propagator going. Meanwhile, you can be cleaning, painting, fitting shelves in your garden room ready for when you do need a potting/sowing/pricking out bench and seedling shelter. Maybe refuse to do any "house work" until he's got you warmed up?

Blue sky here between the clouds, and the wind has dropped. Got an inside job to finish though, helping OH sort out the mountains of photos we've inherited from our parents. Interesting though, looking back at people's lives; we found bits of correspondence and newspaper clippings tucked behind photos in frames. My Mum's oldest brother was in the Navy and died in WW2; we found a photo of a girl we didn't recognise, which had a letter from her to him, and a certificate of his competence as a radio operator, behind it. We suspect he was her lost love, but there's probably nobody alive now who could confirm that - Mum has dementia and her last remaining brother is very poorly.
April to September in western Scotland, October to March in Madeira for me, I think. In my dreams...
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Saw that cartoon too LG - struck a chord with me too .....I've been quoting it all week
love old photos Lily ....always makes me wonder what they were thinking, and what they went off to do next (probably a quick change out of their Sunday best )
just need to pack a bag, then setting off for the land of the scousers (my Dad's one). Sat nav is saying 4 hours, but think thats optimistic on a Friday afternoon

Ob: with the 16 (hours fasting) : 8 (hours you can eat) is it your normal calorie intake or is it restricted at all?
