Just back from delivering the in-laws half way back to Yorkshire (BIL came the other half from Yorkshire to collect them). Bit of a palaver but they seem to have enjoyed their Christmas which is the main thing.
Called in at W'rose on the way back to pick up the peppers and leeks which I forgot to buy last week - need those for the turkey curry, turkey sweet and sour, turkey ham & leek pie and the turkey broth I shall be making from leftovers. Quite a lot of meat left - but sent MIL home with a parcel of cold gammon and turkey and half a bag of potatoes so I don't think anything will be going in the bin (hate throwing out food).
Freezer and things like part-bake rolls and baguettes are a complete godsend at this time of year. There will be a lot of turkey based meals in the freezer after tomorrow and we'll really enjoy them after a couple of weeks - but I might be focusing on fish, fruit and salads for a couple of days. All this rich, meat heavy food gives me a very jaded palate. need some fresh and zingy stuff now
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
Ouch for Fairylets tooth. Hope it's less painful today and that some Christmas spirit remains with you all. What a time for it to happen.
Dove can you ask for a replacement machine rather than a repair? It's too soon for things to go wrong. Hopefully Wonky can get your s all's done in no time.
Lizzie you will think you've gone deaf when you get to the cottage. A great Christmas though with everyone there. I'm still trying to get my head round that many baguettes.
LilyP, lovely news of a spring baby. So glad that all's well with the Moscow family and that you had a nice time with your son and family. Just over two weeks till you see your grandson. Bet you're crossing off the days.
We had a good Boxing Day curry party and looking forward to the return event at sil's on the 2nd Jan (the only day I don't cook). Salad tonight so I suppose that's not technically cooking.
Topbird just HOW big was that turkey?. A long drive but it's good to be with family. My Mum and Dad won't travel anymore and there's no room for all of us down there. They seem happy though and have great neighbour's.
Pdoc the walk round the botanical garden sounded just the ticket. A great excuse for a hot toddy
Whippet it must be a huge present. You can always go back for more paper if he wants to buy you a few extras.
Have a good evening everyone. Sleep well Hosta (fingers crossed).
Lesley - it was the smalllest "medium size" I could find - but loads of meat. Was brought up to use every last scrap of a turkey or chicken - reckon this will have given us around 30 portions of different meals plus a couple of cartons of soup by the time I've done with it.
Makes it seem like an economical buy if I think of it like that
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
Topbird there's never anything left here either. Thanks to two gannets (sons) and a freezer. Must admit there's not much to put in the freezer. Maybe enough for a risotto.
Hosta I think we've reached the age when you wonder when your time is up. Live every day with appreciation for the little things that mean a lot.
Flamin 'eck they're dropping like flies. Shame about Carrie Fisher, she was too young but she had put her body through some difficult stuff. At 96 I'm sure Richard Adams was more than ready to go - I know Pa was.
Lesley, if a new microchip or whatever it is won't do it then I shall ask for a new machine. It's a programme problem - it just won't move on.
