Solstice today LP. Hope you have a great trip once it arrives
Been windy here but I don't think there's any damage. Friday's the one that's to be bad, with a load of weather coming in later today and through Thursday too.
Christmas is always a time of reflection for me and the info I found out about the yong marine just heightens it, as well as all the grief going on around the world. Not everyone is as fortunate as I am.
I hope everyone here has a good and happy time over the next week or so.
Off to work now. Catch you all later
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
The wind has arrived here and I'm just about to set out with the dog.
DD have a lovely time with Charlie. You must be looking forward to your trip and I'm sure it will do you the world of good.
Pat, no new ones yet, I had forgotten how to make a new album but worked it out eventually. I'll sort some out when I've got some spare time.
We had a trip out to the Christmas market in Edinburgh yesterday and though at first I didn't really want to go after the news from Berlin, it was very enjoyable and we took a few minutes to remember the poor people and their families who were affected there. OH had said I needed a day away from the h/w but I did come home and clean the oven.
Morning all. A busy few days. I read back last night but now that I come to post I can't remember everything (anything!). Hope Wonkywomble's fully recovered, that DD can get through Christmas and out the other side to a lovely trip, and that no one inflicts a Christmas apron on Hosta. Congratulations to LilyP and I hope everyone who is feeling stressed or apprehensive can find some peace.
I mowed the lawn yesterday - 20 December! And put my fox & squirrel ravaged pots of bulbs back together. Wish I had more time to get out in the garden, but will have to wait until next week (or indeed next year) for that. In other news, I have quit my job of 18 years. Not officially yet, but have told colleagues. Don't want to give too many details on a public forum but it's a weird feeling. I don't know if I've done the right thing but it doesn't, at least, feel like the wrong one.
Work today, kids break up from school, carol concert and meal tonight - let Christmas commence.
'If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need.'
Yes, the winter equinox definitely feels to me like the start of a new gardening year... though I suspect there might be a bit more winter to come, before the bulbs really get going. Something to look forward to though.
Lesley - thanks! I'll look at the Jigsaw Planet site for your message when I've printed out the boarding cards for tomorrow's flight to Ireland. Got some last-minute jobs to do too...
See you later.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Congratulations LG .... whatever lies ahead, change is always interesting
I spoke to Wonky last evening, she was very chipper ... and looking forward to the end of the week and the start of the Christmas break.
I had a stroll around the garden yesterday afternoon - H. ericsmithii Snow Love is in full bloom, so are the Prim. vulgaris, but not much else. H x hybridus Tutu has loads of fat buds but I don't think they'll be out for New Year's Day, and I can't see any snowdrops yet - 2017's count is going to be well down on 2016.
Edited to add: Clematis cirrhosa Freckles is covered with buds, opening nicely - they should be ready for New Year's Day.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
21st December - shortest day or -as my OH likes to say with a nudge nudge wink wink - the longest night
Today is his birthday so we will be going out for lunch soon and then we can settle in to watch something good on TV in front of the fire with a glass of something special.
Always feel a sense of relief when we get to the 21st Dec - just because from tomorrow we're on the start of the run up to the longest day!!
Not doing too much today other than moving the biscuits, sweeties and crisps hoard to cupboards downstairs. If I move then down before now they mysteriously get opened and eaten long before the festive season (we must have very big and clever mice).
Hope you all have a good day whatever you're doing. SYL.
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
Topbird Happy Birthday to your big and clever mouse. Enjoy lunch.
Hosta imagine the little noses of your hosta's erupting through the ground in a matter of weeks. OK more weeks than you'd like.
Dove I'm looking forward to your new year flower count. Not expecting much here but, fingers crossed a hellebore or two may make an appearance. Glad Wonky's feeling more like herself.
Liri you won't have time for jigsaws. Have a wonderful Christmas with the family but make sure the cat hasn't packed herself before you start out.
Lizzie, you've really got your work cut out but it will all be worth it to have everyone around.

Shortest day to-day. We know what that means?????? SUMMER IS COMING.
Hurray! But, don't forget Hosta, Spring will be here first and all the new shoots and spring flowers
Morning all.
More bedmaking for me today, then HW and putting up of decorations that hang from the ceiling.
Morning all.
