  • Hello folks!  I'm back - vouchers purchased image  Of course the bus was late getting into the city because of the traffic, so I didn't have time to get the vouchers and get the next bus back (there's usually a 20 minute turnaround) so I was forced to have brunch in Carluccio's - a delicious coffee and scrambled eggs and mushrooms image

OH tells me he's cooking curry for supper so there's nothing for me to do today other than bottle the pickled cabbage and noodle with you lot and do more knitting .......... it's a hard life image

My last group of the year have just cancelled so I've been jotting up my visitor numbers etc. I've had more students through the museum this year than we did in the combined total of 2011 - 2013 (i.e. THREE YEARS WORTH)

    No wonder I'm tired!

Didn't unfortunately hit the 4,000 mark (just). I'm aiming for five thousand next year (boss has promised our sponsors 8,000 a year but I just can't see that happening!)

Mind you one scout group sleeping in the museum are wanting to bring over 50 scouts... (agh! All in a confined space) So perhaps I should be more optimistic.

Off for my hearing test now. I SAID I'M OFF FOR MY HEARING TEST. NO I DON'T WANT A BISCUIT. TEST. I SAID TEST. NO THANK YOU MY SHOES ARE JUST FINE. image

  • Doesn't a sleep-over count as two visits?  They're there on two days aren't they image

Just the one. Unless I can convince them to go out and run around the block before coming back in?

New hearing aid installed. I arrived early (expected the traffic to be bad with the bomb scare) and this nice old gent started talking to me... we both failed our hearing tests there and then. His words too muffled mine not loud enough... what a farce it must have been for the receptionist to watch!

  • I remember when we were at art school invigilating in galleries etc, and having to count the visitors ... we counted dogs as visitors and babes in arms ........... at one stage when visits were very slow, we even counted pedestrians who slowed down and looked hrough the window, but we counted them as half a person each. image

  • OH has reminded me, large dogs counted as a whole person, small dogs as half. image

Who were we to deny that dogs can appreciate fine art? image

    See original post

We've not gotten that bad yet but if I counted the amount that booked and either short minute cancelled or in the case of one school didn't show up... THREE times I'd be much closer to my target!

His lordship is out tonight, is it too early to climb into bed and either find a book to read or some nonsense on the iplayer?

I'm put the presents out in a bid to try and induce festive cheer. But since decided they'd be safer under a dust sheet of their own.

  • You're very organised, Clari.  The closest I've got to wrapping presents is to put them all in the suitcase, so I can make sure we're not over the Ryanair weight limit.

I'm on the train, got as far as York.  Mum didn't really understand about the chocs (or indeed, about much today), but the staff will dispense them.  And she was pleased to see me so we had a good couple of hours together...  image

Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
  • Evening all. Had a funny sort of day, & now feel a bit funny too, trying to pass it off as hormones and pull myself together.

Looking after my friend's house is a bit stressful I suppose and the 3 dogs, although adorable are tricky to manage. Nearly lost a marinating pork chop last night and the lip balm in my handbag went down well too, much to my dismay and astonishment. I have to be on my guard with everything. They sleep in the living room and I was told to lock the bedroom door, which I did; unfortunately I went to the loo in the night and by the time I'd got back to the bedroom there were 3 dogs (Alsation, Labrador & a Husky) curled up happily in my 'warm bit'. image

Today went for a Christmas lunch with friends and we did a secret Santa which was fun. But then I had to go back to ex OH's house to feed the cat, which I miss terribly, (he is in UK on business). All his (???/my) Christmas decorations were out, his (enormous) tree up and I felt a terrible sense of loss. My friends at the lunch were talking about big family Christmas celebrations, I can't afford/dare not waste money (reserved for Chateau de Gateau)on decorations, not this year anyway, za
