Ive just been downstairs and put the venison to marinate in a splash of port with some juniper berries and lemon peel and I popped out to the terrace in my nightie and bare feet to get a couple of bay leaves and a sprig of thyme. It feels quite mild out there. If it stays dry as promised we should be able to cut the grass this weekend.
Now I'm back in bed with my coffee
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Morning all! It was hubby's turn to make the first cup of tea, I'm now downstairs waiting for the second to brew (two cups of tea in bed before we get up is the rule at weekends) and am wearing his dressing gown. It happens to be a purplish-red Totally get the purple 'state of mind' - I'm 49 so am approaching the age when I can eat a pound of sausages in one go... (God, I do hope you all know the poem or that's gonna sound so weird).
I am loving this forum and I know I've spent far too long exploring in my first couple of days, so I ought to explain I work from home as a ghostwriter, writing autobiographies for people. I was supposed to have work coming in this week that didn't materialise, but I had to keep checking, hence lots of time in front of laptop. When I do have work I will be much quieter on here. Potentially...
Thanks for the welcome Obelixx, Wonky, Dove and Lantana - quick explanation of Thankthecat - years ago I needed a new email address. The kids had been watching Babe, Pig in the City, in which there's a line, "Thank the pig." Thankthepig was, unbelievably, already taken as an email address. I was listening to Cat Stevens at the time, so thankthecat was born. Oh, and we do currently have four cats (and four dogs, too).
Right, tea must be brewed by now. Have a good day all x
Do you think the ladybirds have been swept in on a Spanish plume or something? We have not seen many all season, then suddenly we are plagued with them. I have got them inside the house now as well. The doors have been shut so they must be getting in through airbricks. They do seem to be harlequins though.
I must chop the leaves off the banana today. It looks magnificent, but it fills the greenhouse, and I need space for other stuff. Dahlias are still flowering well. Tulips not yet in.
Thank the cat, sometimes in summer we organise garden visits. Places like Hodsock priory for snowdrop, or Barnsdale, or Bressingham gardens. A lot of plant swapping goes on in the car parks at the end. What part of the country do you live in ?
Apple cake was a success - we've tested it out and there is plenty left for the weekend ......help yourselves.
Dull here, but thankfully dry. Going to help Mr C lay some paving, and will definitely get my 100 February Gold and 50 allium christophii planted in the meadow (Clari - just a reminder for you too - my partner in (bulb planting) crime)
Beech trees are colouring up beautifully, and the acers and liquidambers are pretty special this year too. I shall enjoy being in amongst it all for a change
Morning all/afties Pat. Hope the visiting visitors appreciate all your hospitality
Aahh Cat Stevens....when other teenagers had David Cassidy and Donnie Osmond on their bedroom walls, we had Cat Stevens and Steve McQueen
Dank and misty here so no hills today. Watching Regina Spektor on Jools Holland and the rest of Still Game from last night cos I fell asleep...till half four....
I've planted all my tulips - we don't have to worry about them getting too warm! Some 'fell' into my hand when I collected a new lamp from Homebase the other day. Dove - there are still plenty in there....
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
