Just watched GW recording, brilliant - learned a lot. How to split up plants, planting a rockery in a planter, planting through membrane, cooking chard, bold use of colourful flowers and best of all Monty Don's cute dimples, all made it worthwhile watching! image That garden on the cliff was seriously amaazzzing! What skill and what a view.

I think GD would identify very well with the sort of weather here;  similar in many ways image

Probably more similar than mine, even though we're in the same county, I think? You're in Devon, Verdun? Or are you over the Tamar?

I thought that lady in Ireland was lovely. I can honestly say I didn't notice the music image And the Cornish garden was just amazing. I love Lamorna. (Except the song gets stuck in my head)

Just wonder what chard tastes like??? Hope someone can draw a good parallel or analogy!

Slightly beetrooty spinach. It doesn't have the stick-to-your-teeth quality of spinach, or the sweetness of beetroot. It does have that rather earthy taste though. I love it - very useful, very pretty, grows all year, near enough image

Cornwall raisingirl.   Not far from the coast in far s.w. of the county where frost is pretty unusual and  not too far away and I know that garden well image

Sadly I'm an expat living over the river these days. I am familiar with the peculiar climate you're describing though. Roseland haa a similar  one, I think. Noticeably warmer and drier than the north coast, even just a few miles away

  • It is surprising what a different a few miles can make where the weather is concerned. Our island is just 5 x 9 miles and with fog at one end and clear as a bell at the other - altitude, and sea air can make a dramatic change. We can have sea mists and land fog, snow on the higher ground and slush or sleet lower down. Jersey may sometimes have more sunshine than us but also colder winters as they are nearer France. It is now raining here so perhaps Verdun will have rain tomorrow?
