I'm really behind in the garden, it's been such a wet cold winter. Only cleared one bed so far. Pruned some roses today.

Looked at old garden photos, it was looking good in 2016. Today the garden looks more like February, photos of garden on 2nd March in 2016 show it looking more tended and more advanced than now.

Seeds are germinating on the sitting room window sill. Plug plants coming next week. Will it be warm enough in the greenhouse, I wonder?

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

You dont need to soak sweet peas seeds. Have sowed more peas, sunflowers, sweet peas in greenhouse.  Hubby has been pruning shrubs along fence line, started putting up new fence 4 weeks ago, since then its been raiing/snowing/freezing, Sunday is the day!!!

    Quite a lot this weekend.

    1. Moved old compost heap
    2. Started new fence weaves from last year’s Cherry Laurel
    3. Built arch - hoping to train sweet peas over it
    4. half built planter (screws won’t go in)
    5. Built a mini greenhouse and put inside pots of sown sweet pea, California poppies, more poppies, and nasturtium
    6. Signed up for garden waste collection service

Still have dahlias to bring out, and lawn to cut

Planted out young larkspur. Bought a pulmonaria from our local shop, just £4 while the very same plant at Wyevale was £10!!

Took advantage of what appears to be 48 hours of Spring. Tided over salvia cuttings and moved pots of narcissi from greenhouse so that l can hopefully do some sowing tomorrow. Supervised installation of chimney pot as feature in flowerbed and also planting of birthday present rose. Exhausting all this supervising, you know! Dug out dead salvia, moved a couple of other plants. Beautiful day, had tea and cake, ready for shower now.

Cleared 3/4 of the long border, which is roughly 20m long and 2m deep. Filled the trailer which is roughly 5 or 6 barrowloads. Still needs some kneeling down sort of weeding along the front and will need edging.

Yesterday I pruned some more roses and fed the roses in pots and topped up with more compost.

  • Planted out a couple of roses, can’t put in the last two till I can move the bulbs. Other than that it was just a hoeing day now that my bulbs have finally all come up, no flowers though, looking like a week for that.

got a whole lot of stuff in the grow house including my sweet pea seedlings, and there they will stay because I’m not getting burned like last year again.

Been really busy today, too busy in fact according to my back.  Have emptied some pots and placed the tulip pots round the garden.  Grass mowed and edged.  Planted some plants that had been gathering dust around the garden.  Tree surgeon coming tomorrow so I'll have more tidying up to do.
