I use pencil now Obelixx - I learned the hard way that it wears better! I have a Sharpie - don't know if that's any better though.
I might have a look at Penstemons. That's interesting about the narrower leaved ones. Makes sense - less 'fleshiness' to get knocked by the cold. I expect if I pick the right spot, they might be ok.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Today I re potted my Echinacia Pink Parasol from last year. I thought it was an annual but found new shoots sprouting this week, so I have given it a new, larger pot with a good peat/grit/sand/leaf mould mix. If it looks just half as good as it did last year I will be happy, the bees loved it and so did we. Pleased to say I collected some seeds last year, which are just starting to germinate, will they be true to the parent plant I wonder?
That looks really lovely stuff giddy. I have a large compost area with sides, but Doris blew the sides down, hoping OH will repair it this weekend.
we have had a frost here overnight, so I'm hoping my broad beans that I planted out are ok, it was a bit early but they were getting too leggy, maybe I should have left them in the trays but stood outside, that way I could have moved them in at night, lesson learned....thought i'd get ahead and sow seeds in autumn, now i'm too far ahead ?
Morning Loana, frosty here too. Brrr. A little tip I picked up on here is to cover young plants with a bit of horti fleece or even newspaper for protection, when a ground frost is expected. Hope your beans are ok
Morning all , beautiful morning here in Howwood , bit cold yet but the sun is shining. Yesterday afternoon was like a summers day here and I got loads done in the garden. I moved Verbena , Helenium and Salvia to a much better place than where they were , hoping they'll do well. I sowed tomato , cucumber. basil and chilli seeds ..that's the window sill full now. I potted up the chocolate cosmos I had over wintered in my shed, last week and its growing already. I also cleaned all the paths and the patio with Jeyes fluid brings the slabs up brilliant. My OH was busy too he made a new bird feeding table ..looks awesome . Going outside now to get started ..loads of things to do. It gives you such a boost when the sun is shining. Hope you all have a great day
A lovely dry, sunny but windy day - great for gardening. Our almost son-in-law strimmed and mowed the lawns, we tidied and I hoed & rake my wild flower area, breaking down lumps, removing bindweed and some of the roots - it will be back I know, but I have done the best I can.

Loana, yes, Raven is a dark one - not grown before but planning on grouping up with grasses and heleniums so should look ok.
Fairygirl, yes I was pretty busy in between conference calls ?.

Oh yes
. Looking definitely counts Fairy. As does thinking about gardening.
Even better is standing outside looking at a patch of garden, and thinking about what the heck to do with it
Looking good there Andy?.
Pheww - I did some looking and thinking, so I'm well covered...

Emptied my hot bin and used it as mulch on my beds.
it only taken 5 months to make and it was decent mulch compost.
