Went back out as instructed by Nanny Beach Planted up the behind the bog border, had a couple of campanula left over as I didn't want to cram them in. Imaginatively planted a C glomerata next to my other one, forgot which ones I already had so it might be the same plant anyway.
Moved a few other plants for better spacing and potted up an Aconitum Elenora (?) and an orpine before they get overwhelmed in the shade border.
Did a small amount of weeding and anti couching and unpeeled the hyacinth above.
Saw a queen buff tail checking out some of my stump piles, cleared the crap from in front of the hedgehog box in the hope they nest in there again
No, rain, a bit last night (didnt do a thing) got 3 veg beds weed, mulched, ready for planting, emptied various containers and hanging baskets ready for re-planting, tidied lean to greenhouse, (its heated, seedlings will go in there later) main top greenhouse, (it has my potting bench) thought it was meant to rain today so was going a seed sowing! Then the back after about 3 - 4 hours said "go and sit and watch Bruce Willis, in Red, and have a glass of vino!!!
We built the tortoise enclosure - one is waking up from hibernation, so they will probably be going out next week if we get any sunshine. Started to tidy up around the small pond, cleaned some old concrete plant pots (large) ready to repaint and re-use for summer plants. Deadheaded about 150 daffodils around the garden and started to hoe and then rake wild flower area, ready for seed sowing next week.
That sounds like my dream day GD (apart from the pot cleaning)
I did some more weeding today, reckon I should be able to keep on top of it now. Lots of couch grass appearing, ripped some out the pond too. Lots of it is wrapped around a big salvia and the yellow eremurus, nothing I can, or want, to do about that except snap them off at soil level
Had a think about the spring bulbs, where I can move some and also spaces available for next year. Photographed some places so I know vaguely where to dig come autumn
Took the anorak off the bench and gave it a sponge bath. Think I need to repaint the arbour seat, but not today Also moved some pots around according to what is looking nice. Think I might get more anemone blanda for next year, they take up no space but are so cheerful.
Planted out my broadbeans today, risky i know but they have got so big in the cold greenhouse, that i felt they would be no good if left in there. Dug in my charlotte seed potatoes. My OH helped me build some cheap wooden raised beds, they were cheap and are a bit naf but they will hold compost and serve that purpose! ?
Peppers and tomatoes sown on the heated bench today. I was supposed to be limiting myself this year but still managed about 20 varieties when I counted them afterwards!
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
20 varieties - my goodness Bob you will be eating them for breakfast lunch & dinner at that rate. My Dad grew both toms and peppers commercially at one time. He didn't like the taste of either!
Just tweaked some dianthus, washed a few pots and visited GC but came out with NOTHING! Obviously it wasn't a very positive day today. Blame it on the weather.
